8th lutz #1 Posted November 6, 2007 (edited) http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2925 I don't don't know how Tetris L-block is a video game character. I didn't know it got in. This was silly. The system for advancing to the next round was flawed. This contest started with 128 Characters. Each match up had 4 Characters go against each other with the top 2 in votes making in to the next round. In the final round, the winner of the 4 characters gets crowned as the 2007 Character winner. Tetris L-Block was not the top voter getting for most round. It advanced in rounds because it finished in 2nd place including a couple times a big gap from 1st or 2nd place in leading votes. This is how you don't run a character contest. Edited November 6, 2007 by 8th lutz
PressureCooker2600 #2 Posted November 6, 2007 I voted for the '?' Block from Super Mario Bros. I think it beat the L Block yesterday.
8th lutz #3 Posted November 6, 2007 I voted for the '?' Block from Super Mario Bros. I think it beat the L Block yesterday. It did. It was in the bonus round of the tournment, not in the tournment itself.
PressureCooker2600 #4 Posted November 6, 2007 Mega Man was my choice for the win. I was hoping he would miraculously win the whole thing.........I can always dream, can't I? I still can't believe Cloud was beating him. Cloud!!!!! I mean......jeez!!!!!

liveinabin #6 Posted November 8, 2007 Surely it's the I block that makes all the difference in Tetris.
vdub_bobby #7 Posted November 8, 2007 Seriously, this is textbook of how not to run a contest. The fact that the winner didn't have a majority, but only a bare plurality is the biggest strike against it. This is why ballots should be ranked. Or they should have been 1-on-1 contests rather than 1-on-1-on-1-on-1. Multiple choices with unranked ballots will occasionally, and inevitably, spit up some kind of goofy result like this. In baseball, the gold gloves are determined this way (multiple choices and unranked voting), which is why Rafael Palmeiro won the 1B gold glove in 1999 when he only played 28 games at the position all season. All you need is a split vote and some odd winner will squeak in with 30% of the vote, which is exactly what happened here.
NintendoDieScreaming #8 Posted November 8, 2007 You can thank the merry band of internet pranksters at 4chan for massively voting for the L-Block as soon as they realized Mudkip wasn't going to win.
MCHufnagel #9 Posted November 8, 2007 Well I kept voting for L Block. I did it to piss my kids off! They thought having it in the competition at all was a joke! P.S. They are right you know!
