so_tough! #1 Posted November 8, 2007 (edited) First of all congratulations to all who made this game, second of all.. The Jag was marketed as a 64 bit system (i don't believe its 64 bit for a second, but thats another discussion..)-if this came out on the Jag when it was "alive!" would you be impressed? surely this game is more suited to 2600? Just less good graphics, but same game play.I would be a little disappointed of most Jaguar home brews are not going to use the power of the system. Or at least not look like a quality 16 bit game. Any thoughts? Why release it on Jag when its more suited to a less powerful system? If you don't have the skills to make a Jag game, then i think make a game for another less powerful system or it just seems like a waste.Sorry, if this is a little like a downer.I don't mean it personally. *Same goes for it being released on neo geo cd, snes and Genesis-i would have kept this game for the early eighties systems* Edited November 8, 2007 by so_tough! +5-11under #2 Posted November 8, 2007 Interesting question... I haven't really followed the Jag homebrew scene, at least lately, but I'm guessing that the development tools aren't that comprehensive, and easy to use. Also, it's still early in the Jag homebrew scene. We'll have to see what's going on 5 or so years from now. I'm guessing that this is a first effort, and that future projects will use more of the Jaguar's power, and look/be more impressive. Also, being more complex than other Atari consoles, it'll be difficult for one person to create a large game on their own. Either the games will be simpler/smaller, take longer to make, or require teams, which is quite a different model than a lot of homebrewers are used to. Just my 2 cents Canadian. Thanks, 5-11under
so_tough! #3 Posted November 8, 2007 Maybe for future more people should get involved with the same project? I know back in the early days of video games less people were needed but as consoles got more powerful they needed more people to work on a project.I'm sure people pulling all their powers together, could make a really great game-even if it took a while.A year, two etc.
+doctorclu #4 Posted November 13, 2007 Frog Feast is kinda like Pitfall or Demon Attack on the multiple systems. Well, even better, Pitfall and most activision games... look at Pitfall on the 2600, 800, etc, they are all the same. Even on the Atari Jaguar the pack in Pitfall on Pitfall the Mayan Adventure is the same. Activision mastered making the exact same game for every system. Frog Feast is the same way. You introduce new elements and you add complications (Look at the Intellivision version of Demon Attack... the rest after that were basically the one on the 2600 and 800). So, I think there is something to be said for making the same game across multiple platforms. Even though some platforms can handle better and do more, it is best to say "This is how the game will be" and work with a common demoninator. Frog Feast I think I would have bought for young kids to play, and the Jaguar could use a few more kiddie games. (For those of us who like to play the Jaguar and are raising kids... good way to get them involved.) I am not raising kids, but I have fun playing my Jag with my friend's kids. so_tough! #5 Posted November 13, 2007 still, i just hope that people making games push the jags hardware to its limits.
