Thomas Jentzsch #8 Posted July 25, 2002 What resolution are you using? and what browser? I'm using 1024x768 and Opera (v6.03) and the fonts look definetely to small for me too.
ATARIPITBULL #9 Posted July 25, 2002 I just became a member today and your site looks great, keep up the good work.
Atarinvader #10 Posted July 25, 2002 I've just adjusted the font, does it look any better for you guys now?
NE146 #11 Posted July 25, 2002 1280 x 1024. Opera, IE, Nutscrape.
NE146 #12 Posted July 25, 2002 oop yeah. It does look a little better. Still small, but at least I can read it. Maybe you should make the fonts scaleable?
Atarinvader #13 Posted July 25, 2002 Maybe you should make the fonts scaleable? You can do that in your browser, but if there are a lot people having this problem then I'll look into it.
Thomas Jentzsch #14 Posted July 25, 2002 Better, but IMO still to small. I can scale every page with Opera very easy (120% looks ok), but it would be better, if I don't have to.
Atarinvader #15 Posted July 25, 2002 It seems like it was a bigger problem than I orginaly thought. I've adjusted the font again, so do you think you could tell me what it's like now?
Chris++ #16 Posted July 25, 2002 No offense to any Opera users, but I had a lot of complaints about people using only that browser when I started up OC&GS. Everyone else could see the text just fine. The problem recurred when I announced the interview with Bill Kunkel, but again, only Opera users were experiencing any difficulties reading the text. So I decided that if Opera users didn't want to fire up a modern browser once in a while, that was their problem. I don't get as many hits as a flashy, colorful site anyway, because OC&GS is full of intelligent articles (or attempts at such, at any rate), and very few pictures. It's intended for READERS who love video games, not people looking for superficialities and dazzle. Anyway, cool site, kiddo, and feel free to pull any articles, hints, etc. from OC&GS (see the link below) if you want more material, as long as you don't snip my name off. NE146 #17 Posted July 25, 2002 Actually I got the small fonts using IE. And no you can't adjust the fonts you have by using the browser (view-->text size -- larger/smallest) or (cntrl-mouse scroll button). Neither method would scale those fonts. Opera works just as fine as well. NO problems whatsoever. The fonts were just small. Oh by the way, atarinvader it looks fine now.
Chris++ #18 Posted July 25, 2002 Cool -- I'm glad it was a different problem than mine was. Admittedly, the fonts I used didn't show up at all in Opera against my black backgrounds, rather than it being a resolution problem. I should've said that at first, I guess. CF again
Thomas Jentzsch #19 Posted July 25, 2002 Opera is a modern browser. It only follows the web standards much more closely than MS "we don't care" IEs. If something works with IE but not in Opera, then you can be 99% sure, that the web designer used non-standard or buggy code.
Albert #20 Posted July 25, 2002 Opera is a modern browser. I agree. It only follows the web standards much more closely than MS "we don't care" IEs. If something works with IE but not in Opera, then you can be 99% sure, that the web designer used non-standard or buggy code. The same exact thing can be said for pages that don't render properly in my favorite browser, Mozilla. If a site looks good in IE and looks terrible in Mozilla, I won't visit it (again) unless it's something I absolutely need to for whatever reason. That's about the only reason I fire up Internet Explorer these days. ..Al

Atari 7800.com #24 Posted July 26, 2002 I just want to wish you guys luck with your new site. It's always nice to see people get into Atari and try to lead the masses to a better understanding of what Atari was all about, and help everybody get to enjoy Atari for what it was. Anyways I wish you guys the best.
Thomas Jentzsch #25 Posted July 26, 2002 I've just compared the page with Opera and IE. The fonts in Opera are still still smaller, especially the height seems to differ a lot. The size in IE is just large enough to be acceptable readable (though a little bit more would be nice for my old eyes ), but in Opera it hurts. One of the reason for the problems seems to be the inverted contrast. AFAIK, the human eye prefers dark letters on bright background, so if you change that, you have to increase the font size to please the eye.
