Albert #2 Posted November 11, 2007 Damn, that is pretty cool! And it has Black Knight 2000, which is one of my favorite pins. Wish they had more shots of the cabinet though, I'd really like to see what it looks like with the screen.. ..Al
Prodos8 #3 Posted November 12, 2007 My favorite pins were Gorgar, the original Black Knight and a western themed (can't recall the name -- but could play all day on a quarter) table from the 70s. Neat concept and it should be quite easy to translate many more tables, licensing requirements aside. There's no mention of pricing, that I could find, so that could be a deal killer as well. Prodos8 #5 Posted November 12, 2007 Very cool! Mrs.Jboypacman would love this. That would be really cool! Now you'd have three times as much money to throw at it.
SRGilbert #6 Posted November 12, 2007 (edited) Apparently, they are selling them through Sam's club, for the bargain price of $4,874. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate....amp;item=369040 That does look like an awesome machine though. The biggest concern I would have (and it's not the price!) is that it sounds like this company will live or die depending on the success of this machine. That means that support could be a major issue, not to mention the promised table updates. There's quite of bit of info out there about it, just google Ultrapin. Here's a pretty good like to specs and pics http://www.bmigaming.com/ultrapin.htm Edited November 12, 2007 by SRGilbert
Albert #7 Posted November 12, 2007 Apparently, they are selling them through Sam's club, for the bargain price of $4,874. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the price tag. That's crazy expensive for what amounts to a flat panel display in a pinball cabinet! ..Al
Blackjack #8 Posted November 12, 2007 (edited) it sounds like this company will live or die depending on the success of this machine. Nah..... It's Global VR, and they have lots of products. Here's a link to their product page. I would buy one in a second if I had the money. http://www.globalvr.com/products.html Edited November 12, 2007 by Blackjack
supercat #9 Posted November 12, 2007 I'd have to see one to judge it, but I'm skeptical of how well a digital simulation can really capture pinball. So much of the feel of the game depends upon it being real and three-dimensional (so one can change one's point of view to better see parts of the playfield, etc.) I don't think that would really work with a simulation, though I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Yeah, same with me. While it's a pretty innovative cabinet, it will only look really good from one angle, and of course people are different heights. Still, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun to play and while you're "in the zone" you probably won't notice quite as much that you're playing a simulation instead of a real mechanical beast. Obviously maintenance will be much easier, and there's the potential to add additional games down the road (although given the price tag of this machine, I'm sure they will not be cheap!) Now, if they can get PINMAME to run on it, that would make it a bit more compelling. ..Al
+remowilliams #11 Posted November 12, 2007 Definitely an interesting looking product. Not sure it would 'feel' right though, I'd like to see one in person.
supergamer #12 Posted November 12, 2007 Count me in with the skeptics. I'd like for anything new to have it's shot and I'd be happy to be proved wrong if it's really innovative... but I don't see how you can recreate the experience. If people decry the lack of accuracy in console emulation, what will the potential complaints about something trying to recreate a mechanical system on a monitor? I can't see how any serious pinball fan (of the breed with the space and money) would want this for more than a novelty. There's something about the complexity of mechanical devices that's intriguing, the meshing of parts, the sounds they make, and even the repair. Is it more convienent to have it all digital? No question. Digital watches have less to go wrong with them too.
Blackjack #13 Posted November 12, 2007 True enough.... it will never replace real pinball, that's impossible. But I think it probably does what it's supposed to well. I'm a huge pinball fan, and I really love playing Pinmame. It's not the real thing, but it's surprising how much you can "get" into old tables you remember in simulation. Add to that the "nudging" effects that this cabinet allows, and a much more realistic simulation than on a regular computer monitor, I think it's a great thing for pinball. My slik stik and Mame will never replace the arcade games I love, but I can't have them so I'm happy with what I've got, and it's great. btw.... they licensed visual pinball from the creator to base this simulator on ( I read it on wikipedia "visual pinball")
