Shannon #26 Posted November 13, 2007 Funny how people make such a big deal about browsers.. IE, Firefox, Opera. They're just friggin browsers. For the WEB. Personally I got like 3 or 4 on any one pc of mine.. doesn't really matter. And FPS's are just FPS's Mr Ed..

Uzumaki #28 Posted November 13, 2007 After reading through this, I was tempted to do something I wanted to try a undred times but never did it yet: convert an old arcade to MAME. I have an arcade cab and even offered it for free but the few takers simply dropped off the face of the earth. My cousin was the last one, and come this Christmas party I'll remind him he promised to take the cab 2 years ago If he still doesn't take it, I'll probably gut the cab and plan on something. I still have an old AMD K2-500 somewhere that should be enough for some older classic games.
opeygon #29 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) i just talked my buddy out of buying one of these on sunday. it's got buyers remorse written all over it. while i was researching it for him i found this thread from AA http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...p;#entry1198955 anyway, i wonder if the konami one sucks this bad too? Prodos8 #30 Posted November 14, 2007 I saw one at Target a few years ago and wasn't terribly impressed. Its too small for adults, and kids don't play these games, so I dunno what they were thinking. I'm not surprised to see it on close out at Big Lots. It didn't stay in the Target store very long, maybe a month or two.

missioncontrol #32 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) Scathing "that's why it ended up at Big Lots" review Modding it The "Scathing" review link just produces a blank area where the text should be. I could not find it elsewhere on their site. I've heard that these units are quite cheaply constructed. Yeah, I got the same thing. I was looking forward to reading the review, as I've never seen one of these machines.. ..Al I got the same thing, because I was using Firefox. I then opened it using IE and was able to read it. Their loss if they want to alienate a good chunk of visitors. IE is not an option for me unless I want to fire up Windows in Fusion and browse the site that way. ..Al Sorry guys... I am one of the new contributers of the new Retroblast. We pretty much were given the site from Kev Steele. He gave it up to pursue a better Gameroom magazine. He also gave us all his old content so that the reviews wouldn't be lost. When we did the site make over, a few pages didn't transition well. We are still working out the bugs. If you do find other errors at Retroblast, please feel free to let me know or post them in the RB forums so that we can correct them. It isn't our intention to alienate anyone from reading the site. Unfortunately with the new format changes a few pages were overlooked. Edited November 14, 2007 by missioncontrol
Uzumaki #33 Posted November 14, 2007 Rip Off arcade. The display is funky but kind of works. I'll probably just gut em anyway and sell parts on eBay. After all those 2708 EPROM are hard to find and modern EPROM burner don't handle those.
Robert M #34 Posted November 14, 2007 I went and look at a unit in Big Lots today. I can't disagree with the review posted earlier. Its dissappointing. I think the minicabinet, buttons, and shoddy monitor detract from what is a good core product to the point that it isn't a good buy. It would have been an awesome product if they had gone the Jaks route and put the emulator in a full arcade-width control panel (just joysticks and buttons) that could sit on the floor or a counter top. Then just let me connect to my own TV. Use arcade grade buttons, and charge 59.99 for it. I think it would sell like hot cakes. Cheers!
missioncontrol #35 Posted November 14, 2007 The Retroblast link is fixed now. It's viewable with Firefox. I remember when they were out at Target. The controls really didn't feel all that sturdy. They also had the demo displayed on the botton shelf to raise it up to normal height. When I went back a month latter. It was pretty worn out and looked like it was ready to fall apart. 8bitgamer #39 Posted November 15, 2007 The Big Lots by me just got a shipment in of the Midway full size arcade machine, they call it full size but it's significantly shorter, I believe height is 62". It is set up for 2 players with a 15" monitor and has like 15 games or so, like Robotron, Sinistar, Defender I and II, Rampage, and others. $249.00 for it. I've seen those in the store before and would probably get one if they were taller. Classic Home Video Games 1972-1984

SRGilbert #43 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) You guys should check out this "arcade cab" i found on display at Sears last night its much nicer than thoses Big Lot ones as far as i could tell anyway and it has some really cool games with it too....... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...=space+invaders I saw the fake one at Sears, it's just a non-functioning dummy with no monitor or internals. Looks like it could be nice, but it has an odd selection of games. Games List: Alpine Ski, Anteater, Arkanoid, Arkanoid 2, Amred Car, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Atari Basketball, Battlezone, Bezerk, Birdie King, Black Widow, Calipso, Centipede, Chack 'n Pop, Cloak & Dagger, Cyrstal Castles, Elevator Action, Food Fight, Frenzy, Gravitar, Jungle Hunt, Kram, Liberator, Lost Tomb, Lunar Lander, Lunar Rescue, Moon Patrol, Millipede, Minefield, Missle Command, Moon War, Pirate Pete, Plump Pop, Pong, Qix, Red Baron, Recue, Skydiver, Space Duel, Space Invaders, Speed Coin, Super Breakout, Tazz Mania, Tempest, Tounament Arkanoid, Video Pinball, Warlords, Water Ski, Zoo Keeper Arkanoid, Pong, and Warlords with joysticks? What are they, high? How do you play Battlezone without at least one top-fire joystick? I won't even get into all the trackball games! Plus games I've never heard of: Kram? Plumb Pop? (Looks like Plump Pop is a spinner game too!) I wonder what's inside it, if it could be hacked, it might be worth the $1500 asking price. What someone needs to come up with is a system set up for vertical monitor games and a 4-way joystick! Edited November 18, 2007 by SRGilbert
Uzumaki #44 Posted November 18, 2007 Hmmm... looks like another arcade for Big Lot to sell in the near future. I've seen it and it is a bit small for an average adult. Not to mention uncreative controllers.
SINGLE TOOTH #45 Posted November 18, 2007 I was playing a cab at Costco that was pretty fuckin nice. Full size, decent joysticks and screen.
PressureCooker2600 #46 Posted November 18, 2007 My mom and older brother each bought one of the Midway cabs from Big Lots. They are pretty decent for the price and fun to play. My only little obsessive problem over it is the colors are a little off and the characters are not as defined.
warmachine #47 Posted November 18, 2007 "Arcade goodness at Big Lots" Damn, that's funny. If they sold that pile for about $150.00 less, it would still be a ripoff.

PressureCooker2600 #50 Posted November 19, 2007 Okay.....after thoroughly playing it at my mom's......my biggest complaint (I HATE IT ACTUALLY) is the lack of being able to save the hi-scores on the games. It will save the hi-scores AS LONG AS you don't switch the power off, unplug the cab, hit the reset button, etc. etc. It REALLY pisses me off. On the options screen, where you can modify the difficulties of the games and such, it has a thing that asks if you want to reset the hi-scores. WHY WOULD I WANT TO RESET THEM IF YOU DON'T SAVE THEM ANYWAYS!?!?!? The only way to save them is to NEVER turn your unit off. That sucks....because competition on these games with my bro and friends is a BIG component of their fun factor. They could have found a way to save them....somehow. I can let all my other gripes about the setup go.....but not THIS!!!! I'll find the owner's manual and MAYBE there's some way to save them that I might be missing....but I'm not holding my breath.
