Recording video with Atari800win+

Recommended Posts

Hiya

Been trying for ages to capture video and sound with the atari800win emulator using the built in recorder however have had little success. The only way to get it to work is to record in uncompressed full frame mode.

This takes up too much space though and the recorded video is a bit choppy. Has anyone had success in using codecs to record video?

Thanks

How fast is your PC? As with any capturing , you'll probably need a speedy computer , and it also wouldn't hurt to have a slave drive to capture to.

Me , I tried all sorts of codecs for capturing the video, just to experiment you know. I always go back to the Uncompressed FullFrame mode. It's the only codec that doesn't lose quality for me.

My emulation PC is only an Athlon XP 2.1Ghz with 1 GB RAM so it probably couldn't handle realtime encoding with a codec like xvid. Still, I thought it should be able to capture uncompressed full frames. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, the demos I've been trying to record play smoothly in the emulator but when I video capture them the playback isn't smooth. I'll have to keep at it I guess.

Thanks for the reply

Sam

Divx might work without choppiness.

Try it with a huge bitrate like 3,000 and don't do any post-processing stuff like resize or filtering. Also, choose the "Fastest encoding" from the second panel in Divx.

Divx slows down heaps if you try and encode with low bitrates.

For audio, just use straight .WAV

Best method is to capture in a wasteful but guaranteed not to drop frames fashion, then re-encode it later for compact size.

This may sound a little odd , but is it possible your codecs are probably messed up? I mean seriously , you could be capturing just fine , but then playing back the file might have issues somewhere. Have you tried using WMPclassic?

The reason I'm thinking this , and I know it's a longshot is ... I have Sony Vegas software installed on my pc , well anyway , after the install I had to rename a few files because my vids would no longer play right in WMP.

Also , like I asked a while , are you capturing to a slave drive , and one that's defragged? This makes a HUGE difference when capturing. Trust me on this.

When I say the recorded video is choppy what I meant was that it looked out of sync. Like running a 50hz game on a 60hz monitor and vice versa. The scrolling is not smooth in the recording but it is in the emulator
