Guitar Hero 80s Question

Recommended Posts

OK, a few (possibly/probably stupid) Guitar Hero questions.

Since GHIII has been released and there's already downloadable content being made available for it, I think I backed the wrong horse by purchasing GH2 for the 360. I did so thinking the Rock the 80s songs would be made available as DLC for that version of the game. I don't see that happening now.

So, now I have a guitar controller for the 360 and want a guitar game for the PS2. This is further complicated by the fact I play my PS2 games on a PS3, which doesn't have controller ports. This leads to my bizzare set of questions.

1) Is there any adapter which would allow me to use my 360 guitar controller with my PS3 to play Rocks the 80s? Or, could it be as simple as plugging it into the USB port?

2) Is there any adapter which would allow me to use an existing PS2 guitar controller with the PS3? If so, what is it called?

Or, am I just F-ed out and need to buy a PS2 controller and play it on a PS2?

1) I don't believe that is possible to use the 360 Explorer on the PS2 or PS3.

2) You can use a standard PS2-to-USB adapter to play Guitar Hero PS2 games on the PS3, but you won't be able to use hammer-on's or pull-off's. Also, according to Wikipedia the 2.0 PS3 firmware disallows the playing of any PS2 Guitar Hero game.

I don't own a PS3, but I've come across this info several times when reading GH-related articles.

I think that wiki probably needs to clarify a little more. My guess would be that the inability to play GH 3 on the PS 2.0 firmware is limited to PS3's without hardware backward compatibility. In fact the link provided only lists European options (no US). Which does not make sense to me since the newer PS3's over here had the hardware removed.

I'll have to pop a GH game into my system and see what happens.
