Millipede- high score/test switch

Recommended Posts

Hello-

I recently purchased my first arcade game. Millipede. A few minor issues, but all in all- it seems to work quite well.

First question is about the saved high scores. Any new high score is not saved when machine is powered down. I did some searching- and the only thing I found was possible a ER chip problem. Is there a test for this chip, or any other direction I should look?

Next question is about the self test switch. I noticed that the wires are disconnected from the switch. I found a schematic, which shows the black & white/black wires going to this switch. The schematic shows a 3 terminal switch with the top un-used. My switch is 6 terminal- hence the confussion.

I am interested in getting the switch working because I am intrigued about doing the Multipede upgrade. I do wonder why the switch was disconnected in the first place. If this switch is bad, will that cause other problems?

Thanks in advance for any help with these issues-

For your self-test switch, see if you can see where the wires were soldered to and do a continuity check with a multimeter. With the switch in on position you should have continuity and with the swich in the other direction you should not have continuity.

As for your high score save, my Centipede did the same thing. I replaced the chip 3 times and it still did not keep the high scores.

BTW: if you are going to install the Multipede kit, you should get the self-test switch fixed since you set the options with a self-test mode set-up menu instead of the dip switches. I just installed my Multipede kit last weekend and it was a piece of cake!
