PicoDrive - Full speed Sega Genesis & Sega CD emulation on the PSP

Recommended Posts

wonder what took so long. I've been playing damn good Genesis, no cd support, emulation on my GP32 for years, and PSP is a hell of a lot more powerful. Is Dave the coder of the Picodrive for PSP, he coded a version for the GP32 years back.

The SegaCD has a few extra chips in it, so it's not quite that simple to add it into a Genesis emulator. You have another 68000 processor, plus some custom graphics chip that does scaling and rotation.

That being said, SegaCD support has been in the GP2X version of Picodrive for a while now... though it seems that it took a bit of work to port it to the PSP. It's an awesome feature, but it's hard to put a decent amount of CD images on a memory card to make it worthwhile.

It's still appreciated, though. Half of what made the TurboDuo emulator so great is that it ran most of the system's CD games, and did it well. A TG16 emulator that can't run Ys or Dracula X is woefully incomplete. There aren't any games on the Sega CD that are nearly as essential, but it will nevertheless still be great to play games like Eternal Champions CD and Sonic CD while on the go.
