jboypacman #4 Posted November 24, 2007 The Genny is the machine from Sega's glory days thats for sure also you should look into the Sega Saturn at some point too as it has a few "gems" in its line of games.
NintendoDieScreaming #5 Posted November 24, 2007 Going Sega crazy is definitely not a bad thing to go. I've been Sega crazy since age five. Ah. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Christmas, 1994, and we were at my Aunt Paige's house. She's the younger of my grandmother's two daughters by about seven years, so she's a Gen-Xer and my mother definitely isn't. As a child she had an Intellivision and an Atari 5200, so she knew just how fun video games were. She later bought herself an NES, and I'm pretty sure this year she's buying "her kids" a Wii for Christmas. Anyway, I'm five years old, and my family is going through a strange phase. The excuse is that Dad is off building our new house, so me and Mom are staying at grandmother's so he can finish. The only thing is that he never comes home or visits us. Of course, at five years old, this made perfect sense to me; looking back, its pretty obvious now that it was actually their "considering-divorce-but-were-not-sure-yet" period. So we're at Aunt Paige's house, and all the gift-giving is through, except for one giant box. I didn't think it was for me; this was the first Christmas my sister would really be able to remember, so there were a ton of gifts for her. Then, Aunt Paige hands it to me. "From: Aunt Paige, To: Clark", reads the tag. I slowly tear it open, trying to recognize the blue figure smirking and pointing his finger at me. I open the entire thing and realize the awesome truth: Aunt Paige bought me a Sega Genesis. She connected it to her television, and we spent the next 8 hours playing Sonic The Hedgehog on the "6-Pak" cartridge that came with it. The twists, turns, loop-de-loops, Chaos Emeralds, and small fluffy animals mesmerized us to the point where we didn't even think about discovering any of the other games on the cartridge (which is a bit of a shame, since I imagine smashing street thugs in Streets Of Rage together simultaneously would have been rather fun). Suddenly, the power went out. We would later find that a tree had fallen on a power line and caused it, but that isn't the explanation Aunt Paige or I believe. No, to this day, we still tell people that we played Sonic The Hedgehog so long and hard that we caused the power to the whole house to go out.

cyberfluxor #8 Posted November 25, 2007 The Genesis is EASILY Sega's best system... Because it's "just like the arcade brought home!"? The Genesis can be someone's favorite Sega system however overall it's not easily the best. Don't get me wrong, I own more Genesis titles than any other Sega system and it does have quality points however the Saturn is just amazing and if you import so many doors open. In my opinion Sega just kept wowing the game industry in one way or another up til the Dreamcast was crushed. I remember in high school people talking about not buying a Dreamcast just because there was rummor of a new Sony and Nintendo system along with the outlandish idea of Microsoft entering the market. kevincal #9 Posted November 25, 2007 Well, as far as the US Saturn goes, ya, it had some good games, but obviously the Playstation was better, well, obviously to most people. Most gamers of course don't bother with imports, as it's expensive and a PITA. The Dreamcast had really pretty games, but just not enough killer aps to keep people interested. Plus of course the PS2 was coming out. Sonic Adventure could have been a lot better, and I think that would have made a big difference. I also recall some problems at launch with games not working. The Saturn and DC are nice systems, but the Genesis hung neck and neck with the Super Nintendo, which was quite amazing really. Since the NES pummelled the Master System so badly, in the US atleast. My opinions are based off the US gaming scene. It seemed like after the Genesis, Sega had a real problem with jumping the gun as far as releasing new systems. It's like the panicked and just rushed shit out of the door without thinking...lol. Oh well. Whereas Nintendo was just the opposite, delaying the shit out of everything the past 10 years, and now look at them. Still kicking ass.

PressureCooker2600 #11 Posted November 25, 2007 Sega CD definately has some MUSTS when you own a Genesis. Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side is reason enough to own a Sega CD. I like all of Sega's systems but the Genesis edges its way to the top of my list. I LOVE the Master System and admire the Dreamcast but the Genesis is a MONSTER!! Korea I had my Genesis, SegaCD, 32X, Atari 2600, Master System, SNES, XBOX, PS2, Gamecube, and Gameboy Advance with me in one tiny room that I had to share. It's a good thing my roomy loved video games also.

Whereas Nintendo was just the opposite, delaying the shit out of everything the past 10 years, and now look at them. Still kicking ass. I feel that the Dreamcast was Sega's best system. But Sega's biggest problem was that the Dreamcast was a "home arcade" system. People's tastes changed and the Dreamcast didn't have enough of the games that home console gamers really wanted. The Saturn was really a bastard child and since hind-sight is always 20/20, it shouldn't have been released. If the majority of gamers were "hardcore" then the Dreamcast and Saturn would have been wildly successful. The Genesis really brought home the games people wanted at the time it was out. I have a Genny/CD/32X combo and it really kicks ass. But I still like my Dreamcast best with the Saturn coming in third behind the Genesis.
Ghost Soldier #14 Posted November 26, 2007 Sega collecting is a disease. The only cure is finding great deals on boxed genesis games. That make's me feel better for a few minutes. After the initial high calms down, I find myself looking around thrifts for my next dose of sega goodness.
Atari5200 #15 Posted November 26, 2007 I went Sega Crazy sorta after I got my Nomad. Normally I wouldn't even look at Genny games unless they were dirt cheap, but I found myself buying quite a bit to feed the Nomad. I got a decent collection starting now on a system I normally wouldn't even bother with. My Sega CD collection is large only because I got a hell of a deal on a huge bundle of games at a garage sale, I will always collect for Saturn and Dreamcast as they both kick ass. ultramoo #16 Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) I definitely have an appreciation for Sega over other systems, the Genesis was my first real system and I've been hooked ever since. Just got a couple Sega CD units a couple months ago and just got a 32x a week ago and so now I need to expand my collection! Made sure I got two games for sure, Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix, I've wanted both of those for years and years. The Dreamcast was a great system! I love MDK2 and the Evolution 1 & 2 games on it. Unfortunately I only have two crappy games for my Saturn so I can't say I think it's great, I need to get some good games. Atari5200 #17 Posted November 26, 2007 The Saturn really shines when you dabble in Imports, which I would suggest.
PressureCooker2600 #18 Posted November 26, 2007 The only thing that'll tame your SEGA urges is when all you ever find at the thrifts is 20 copies of Madden '93.
Atari5200 #19 Posted November 26, 2007 lol. I had the opportunity to buy a crap load of sealed Genny sports titles, 5 different ones. for a buck each. I thought about it, but you can't even sell these on ebay for .99C with free freight, would've lost money.
Foxsolo2000 #20 Posted November 26, 2007 The Genesis is EASILY Sega's best system... Once I upgraded from the Master System to the MegaDrive I never looked back. Beautiful system
ultramoo #21 Posted November 26, 2007 Oh god, don't even mention the sports games. I was suckered in to buying several for a while under the guise of "collecting" until I realized they all suck and I never play them and don't want to collect them! BTW, anybody know of anyplace that still sells the storage drawers for sega carts? I have a black one I got back in '92 that is perfect and I'd like to find another, it holds 36 carts. Although it drives me crazy that 32x carts are about 2mm too big to fit in it!
