Atarifever #4 Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) GRRRRR Agreed. The 7800 shots here and on Mobygames have terrible, terrible colors. On some games, I'd rather there was no screenshots. And that's not meant to be insulting to what Al has done here, as I understand it was A LOT of work, but the sky in Scrapyard Dog isn't even blue for goodness sake. Presumably, the OP expects people who contribute to sites like MobyGames to hook up their 2600, VIC-20, or whatever system and take actual screenshots of every game (including rare and expensive ones) complete with lighting issues and RF interference? Yes, the 7800 screenshots need to be replaced. They were taken a long time ago before the 7800 color palette in emulators was improved. ..Al

Albert #8 Posted November 26, 2007 If you want any help, let me know. I have some spare time and an irrationally intense love of the 7800. Please, if you'd like to take new screenshots, I can put them up. To make it easier for me, 1) Please take several screenshots, showing the title screen and a variety of gameplay and levels (where appropriate). 2) Save the images in PNG format. 3) Please name the files appropriately so I can keep track of them more easily (ultimately I will need to name them along the lines of, "s_FoodFight_1.png", etc.) Thanks! I appreciate your offer to help. ..Al

Albert #10 Posted November 26, 2007 Consider it done. What emulator is best at this point? That I cannot answer. That question would probably best be posed in the Atari 7800 Forum. ..Al
NE146 #11 Posted November 26, 2007 Well.. I think it's a little more acceptable than what I've seen in countless videogame "documentaries" that when the subject of arcade games come up, they show what is obviously mame running. I mean yeah it may be hard to find a working machine these days unless you visit private collections.. but in that case why even bother showing it. Jess Ragan #12 Posted November 26, 2007 You've got to be kidding me. You'd rather have your classic gaming pictures taken from a blurry television screen? Screw that! I want pixel-perfect renderings of each and every game. You can't get that level of detail and clarity from some smudgy screen cap.

I used a video capture card on a PC, connected to the Jaguar with an S-Video cable. This worked well and resulted in fairly good pictures, but it was a lot of work compared to just using an emulator. ..Al
Shannon #14 Posted November 26, 2007 I can kinda understand. I get annoyed when snapshots of Atari 8-bit computer games that rely on artificating are taken without artifacting turned on in the emulator (hence making them black and white).
gdement #15 Posted November 26, 2007 It's funny to me how often old games like Space Invaders and Asteroids get depicted with a black background. Many people don't seem to realize that there's supposed to be a backdrop. It's not just some frill - it's a major part of the intended look of the game. Asteroids didn't have a background.. it was just a plain black vector monitor staring at you in the face. Asteroids Deluxe however did indeed have one And I agree about Space Invaders. The look of a clean Taito or even a Midway Space Invaders cabinet (they both have similar yet different moon backgrounds), and a Space Invaders pt 2/ Deluxe, is a thing of beauty with the holographic mirror display on the cardboard background
