Atari classic to the XBLA this week...Asteroids

Recommended Posts

It's probably out on Partnernet.

I would really like the 'enhanced' mode of asteroids, but the glowing explosions make it hard to see the small rocks. Graphic update? Fine. Graphic update that interferes with the gameplay? No thanks. Stil, I like the game so I'll persist with the demo and see if I can get used to it.

The enhanced explosions render the game unplayable IMHO. If you are too close to a big rock when you shoot it, you can't see where the little rocks are going (usually one is headed right for you!)

how can you bitch about tempest and the 360 controller if anybody is a fan of Tempest 2000? As far as I know, there was no rotary controller for the Jaguar or Saturn or any other console that had the game and the game played perfectly fine with a D-pad and OH MY GOD, the 360 has a d-pad.

Who are you replying to? No one was complaining about it, and it isn't even out yet for XBLA to complain about.

And few people would say I suspect that the original Tempest controls as well with a gamepad as it did with the spinner if they've ever played the real thing.

So calm down.

There **WAS** a rotary controller for the Jaguar and it made playing Tempest 2000 much, much better (my opinion). Don't know if anyone is still making them or not but the last time I looked (quite some time ago) these rotary controllers were fetching VERY high prices on eBay.

Here's a link to information on it

And while I commented (bitched??) on the D-pad control for Centipede, I stick by my opinion that I am very skeptical about the 360 controller being good for Tempest or Warlords.

The rotary controller was a hacked Jag controller...aftermarket, not first party...right?

thats what I was saying, AFAIK, there was no official rotary controller for the Jag and I know there wasn't one for the Saturn. Maybe bitching was a harsh word, but still, the whole comment was silly in my opinion. You're not sure how it's going to work on the 360 controller, but it worked perfectly fine with regular d-pads on the Jaguar and Saturn, so why wouldn't it work perfectly fine with the 360. Shit, even when i run it on mame on my GP32, the GP32 stick works out perfectly fine.

I would say the vast majority of people who have played Tempest 2000 have played it using a D-pad.

Oh god..I downloaded the demo's for Asteroids and Warlords.

Warlords is unplayable and the enhanced versions of these games are annoying. Whats with the big explosions?

Missile Command is pretty good though, I bought that instead.

In fact that might the last I get.

Ummm, Warlords isn't out yet on XBLA...

Mmm...Im thinking the Atari Anthology for the Xbox. Sorry.

Its awful and unplayable playing paddle games without a paddle controller.
