Your thoughts on the Emerson Arcadia-2001

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking of getting an Arcadia-2001. They look like lots of fun and are fairly cheap. Does anybody have one or have played one that can tell me alittle about it. Any feedback would be appriciated.

I've played a few Arcadia 2001 games in emulation, and they're alright, but the sound is obnoxious. Graphically, I'd compare it to something like the APF MP-1000.

I have one. Its a nice idea to purchase, but you'll probably be seeing it in your closet more often then playing it.

It seemed to have lots of potential but came out at the wrong time. I guess that is why the crash came because of all the systems like this trying get it's share of the market.

Try it in emulation first. I remember that the controllers are a tad difficult to use.

Games I'd recommend are Cat Trax, Space Attack, Escape, Ocean Battle, Star Chess, and Tanks A Lot. You will need the overlays, or at least a photo of them. IIRC, some of the games had different overlays for each controller.

You may also have to repair the controller cables as well.

I've always said that the games sound like they were programmed by a tone-deaf person. You have to play one for at least a few minutes just to experience how bad the sound is.

Otherwise, it was a 1979 system released in 1982.
