ApolloBoy #1 Posted December 10, 2007 With all the Neo-Geo threads that are going around now, I decided to go ahead and look at Neo-Geo prices, specifically for MVS stuff. Now I knew MVS games were cheaper than their AES counterparts, but not that cheap. Even MVS boards are cheap, which is better considering that all you have to do with one is just mod it for TV output. So, should I go for a consolized MVS instead of an AES and converter? +remowilliams #2 Posted December 10, 2007 If you're into just playing the games then go MVS, if you're into huge dollar collecting for collectings sake then go AES. My little consolized FZ1 is a slice of Neo Geo gaming heaven.
ckrtech #3 Posted December 10, 2007 What kind of video output do you have on that slice of Neo Geo gaming heaven? haha

Hi: What I recommend is to purchase a "Phantom-1 Converter" in which you can play MVS Games, on your AES Neo-Geo Console. Its a very nice little device in which you can save money on buying those MVS game. At the time, I purchased it for $200 something dollars. But the good news is that it went down in price. Give it a shot. NOTE: Try to purchase the up-to-date version though. Anthony
Atari5200 #6 Posted December 10, 2007 yeah MVS is dirt cheap compared to AES, however, I say go full MVS cab. lol. I might have mine next weekend, i'll post pics if I get it, I have a feeling though it's not going to fit in my basement, too tall.
bones #7 Posted December 10, 2007 In a word, yes, get a consolized MVS, makes for a great system. Or a full size cabinet. I have both, tho it's nice to be able to play Neo Geo on your TV and takes up a lot less space than a Big Red (; If you have any interest in playing Metal Slug games pretty much have to go MVS -- the AES versions of those titles sell for serious, serious money. Ze_ro #9 Posted December 12, 2007 I prefer the AES + Converter route myself. The AES is a beautiful console, and looks great sitting with the rest of my systems, while just about every consolized MVS I've seen looks like the console equivalent of Frankenstein's monster, with PCB's hanging out and whatnot. The AES cartridges look far nicer too, if you have the money. Most of the older ones can be had for relatively cheap ($40 or less). --Zero
bust3dstr8 #10 Posted December 12, 2007 (edited) A lot more people are starting to make their CMVS look purdy. Edited December 12, 2007 by bust3dstr8
Cinder6 #11 Posted December 17, 2007 (edited) Personally, if I didn't have a cab (and didn't plan on getting one), I'd go the AES + Converter route. My reasoning is that there are some AES games that are pretty cheap (Samurai Shodown/Spirits comes to mind), and the AES cartridges always look better than the MVS ones. Since you'll actually see the cartridges (unlike with the MVS), it's better to go for the nicer ones. In the end, though, I'd recommend you get a full cabinet, if you can physically fit it in (though I realize most people don't have the space for an arcade cabinet Of course, you could get Shock Boxes, which mitigates the ugliness factor to a large extent, but they are fairly pricey ($8.95 each, IIRC). Individually, it's not that much, but when you're looking at getting them for all your games, you start to realize you could skip out on that and buy one of the more expensive MVS games. Tempest #12 Posted December 17, 2007 Longhorn Engineer did my MVS Consolization and did a fantasic job on it. I don't know if he is still doing them, but you might want to ask if you're in the market. http://www.longhornengineer.com/Projects/Neogeo Tempest
cdoty #13 Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) I sold my AES because it wasn't getting used, compared to my MVS. And the price of AES games (even the cheap ones) was way more expensive. It's a nice collection piece, not much more. I also bought the hardware to connect the Neo Geo MVS (or any Jamma board) to the TV.
