A Sprite #1 Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) Have you ever tried to guess at what was on the screen, only to discover you weren't even close? I thought I was immune. I knew those ducks were dragons, because despite the clever disguise no duck ever stood 50 feet tall and tried to eat my hand instead of the bread (of course the square has hands. Look closer. )But worse was to follow. Imagine trying to play Indiana Jones without instructions or an internet. Somehow, I turned it into ET, only Indy never survived his fall. Based on that evidence, I went back to ET. The first time I played Desert Falcon, I successfully avoided every power-up on my way to dying on the first stage. I still have no idea what EarthWorld is trying to be. I keep looking for Wario to show up in monocolor sprite form and shout a random instruction like "Shoot!" or "Dodge!" or "Go Back To ET! It's Really Underrated!" Anyone else have any? Edited December 10, 2007 by A Sprite
Tempest #2 Posted December 10, 2007 I still have no idea what EarthWorld is trying to be. I keep looking for Wario to show up in monocolor sprite form and shout a random instruction like "Shoot!" or "Dodge!" or "Go Back To ET! It's Really Underrated!" That would actually make the game playable. Hmm... Not a bad idea... I got Fireworld from a friend years before the internet with no manual. I had no idea what half the items were or what they did. I just spent time running from room to room trying to pick up all the items I could. Tempest

Man, it wasn't until the mid-90s when I got internet access that I saw the instructions for Earthworld and Riddle of the Sphinx. The switches as input, WTH. shadow460 #4 Posted December 10, 2007 I still haven't figured out FireWorld or Riddle of the Sphinx. Even Tomarc's screen switching threw me off for a while.
Tom_Explodes #5 Posted December 10, 2007 I honestly, for no reason I can really fathom, used to think that E.T.'s neck stretching was a huge mouth opening.
mattkain #6 Posted December 11, 2007 At age 9, I was told by a very reliable source (my 8 year old cousin) that the fireballs on the second stage in Donkey Kong were mongooses. I'm not sure where he came up with something so absurd and so random, but to this day I can't play that second stage of DK without seeing a little mongoose wobbling over to bite poor Mario. brucebidder #7 Posted December 11, 2007 I thought ET was really tired and kept yawning, of course I was like 5. I also thought that weird thing in Pitfall at the bottom of the screen was a giant squirrel and he attacked you cause he thought you were stealing his nuts. Thats what my father told me at least. It wasn't until like the mid 90's that I realized the nuts were power ups and gold. Im still not sure what the squirrel is. As a side note the other day my wife and I were playing old nintendo games and we were playing SMB and I was jumping over one of the flying turtles and my wife says "why don't you jump on the ducks head and make his wings disappear." I was like "duck?" She says, "yeah the green duck with wings. " I said, "That's a turtle honey." She replied, "That doesn't make any sense why would a turtle have wings!" My head hurt at that point trying to comprehend what she was saying and I dropped it, but still a week later and I think her logic is that because it has wings it has to be a duck, but why would a duck have a shell? WHy a duck?
