Hack Astroblast to use paddles?

Could it be done? How easy is it to hack games to use different controllers?

Astroblast already supports paddles.

 

But it's pretty tough to hack games to use paddles or keyboards if they don't already support it. I think joysticks and driving controllers are the only controllers that are reasonable to hack in.

Umm... I thought Astroblast already used paddles. I think if you plug in paddles you'll find it works with them perfectly. I believe it's the only game to use both paddles and joysticks.
