A Sprite #1 Posted December 13, 2007 (edited) How does it compare to the original ports? On the original Gameboy. Custom pallette. Thanks goes to thomasholzer for the topic idea. Edited December 13, 2007 by A Sprite
Jess Ragan #2 Posted December 13, 2007 Wow, Bounty Bob actually looks like the guy on the front of the box!
Ross PK #3 Posted December 13, 2007 I feel like I can tell straight away that I wouldn't like it even though I like the originals. I don't like the style of the graphics in the game at all which do create a lot of the feel of a game. Same with Boulderdash on the NES.
Vic George 2K3 #4 Posted December 13, 2007 Didn't like this version of the game, and certainly didn't like the ColecoVision version.
A Sprite #5 Posted December 13, 2007 Didn't like this version of the game, and certainly didn't like the ColecoVision version. Tell me a little more? I'm new to the series. Gameboy version was my first...
Recycled #6 Posted December 13, 2007 Didn't like this version of the game, and certainly didn't like the ColecoVision version. cripe, I've never been able to get past level 4 on the CV version. I get tired of constantly replaying the first 3 levels then lose all my lives in a heartbeat while trying to figure the 4th out.
Vic George 2K3 #7 Posted December 14, 2007 Didn't like this version of the game, and certainly didn't like the ColecoVision version. Tell me a little more? I'm new to the series. Gameboy version was my first... Not really much of a series -- just the base game with at least two separate sequels on two separate systems (Miner 2049er Part 2 on the Apple II computer, Bounty Bob Strikes Back on the Atari 5200; the Part 2 game on the 2600 isn't really a sequel game but rather 3 more screens from the original game put into a single game). The game that would have been Miner 2049er's sequel on the ColecoVision, Scraper Caper, was advertised but never worked on or released.
fishsandwich #8 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) I played the crap out of the 5200 version and finished it several times... even with the awful 5200 controller. I got so good I would spell out dirty things in the high score tables. The Gameboy version, on the other hand, is a complete nightmare. I can't make it past stage 2. This was a great series that was totally abandoned. I got all excited when I saw the pictures above... I thought there was a remake on the horizion. I can hope. shadow460 #9 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) How does it compare to the original ports? It doesn't--you're playing Bounty Bob Strikes Back. No, seriously, that's the truth. The controls are the same as BBSB, and all but the first two levels are taken from BBSB. The other major difference is that you gain an extra life for every 10,000 points scored. The levels do not wrap around--once you finish level 10, the game ends no matter how many lives you have left. In spite of all that, it's still an awesome game. EDIT: If you're having trouble beating this version, remember that in BBSB, you can make short jumps by jumping straight up then waiting a split second to push the d pad. It works here, too, and it makes the difference between winning and losing. Edited December 14, 2007 by shadow460

I finally made it to level 4, which is further than I've made it in either of the two games for the 5200. I realize that means I suck at this game. But it also means the Gameboy game isn't as hard as it's reputation suggests... Except for the first level. And the fourth. The slides need to go. shadow460 #12 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) I tried making videos of how to beat the game, but they came out to 600 MB and they were fuzzy at best... You can do Station 2 without using the transporters, and it's a lot faster that way. Also in Station 6, there are some possessions you can't seem to get normally--you have to do some crazy jumps to get them. you can also finish Station 10 without using the transporters, but it's tough. Here's a list of stations: (I do not know all of the BBSB level #'s) 1: Slides (Miner 2049er level 2) 2: Transporters (Miner 2049er level 3) 3: Bob's Morning Calisthenics (BBSB 1) 4: Utility Hoist (BBSB level 2) 5: Suction Tubes (BBSB level 3?) 6: Bob's Playroom (BBSB level 4?) 7: Jumping 101 8: Yukon's Penthouse 9: Luxury Transporters? (I can't remember right off...) 10: Acid Rain (BBSB 25) Anyway, grab the emulator from Big Five's website and practice the levels found in the Game Boy cart. Levels 1 and 2 are easy to get to and don't require the special jumping from BBSB. The rest can be reached with controller codes in BBSB. EDIT: What's that palette on, a Super Game Boy? A Sprite #13 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) I think I can beat the game in under ten minutes, but that's not going for the maximum score. I may grab a video of it and post it up so that you'll get an idea of the various patterns to use. I move fast when playing, though, so if I can get a video you might have to slow it down some. You can do Station 2 without using the transporters, and it's a lot faster that way. Anyway, grab the emulator from Big Five's website and practice the levels found in the Game Boy cart. Levels 1 and 2 are easy to get to and don't require the special jumping from BBSB. The rest can be reached with controller codes in BBSB. EDIT: What's that palette on, a Super Game Boy? No, a Super Gameboy only gives you four colors for the entire screen. The picture above uses 6. I recommend either emulating your Gameboy carts on a more powerful system, or, if you can find it, there's a cheat device for Pokemon called the Brain Boy ( Aka the Monster Brain) . Like the emulators, it allows you to edit the colors of the background and sprites separately. It's as close as you can get to colorizing the original Gameboy library. edit: I paid $30 for mine, brand new. Odds are you can get it cheaper now, since no one seems to have heard of it... edit: The lights and the darks of the background were originally reversed for the Gameboy port of Miner 2049er; most improvements won't be as dramatic. cimerians #14 Posted December 15, 2007 I love this game. I have the Gameboy, CV and C64 versions. My favorite is the computer versions, c64\Apple\Atari etc. I didnt like the Gameboy one that much and I do like the Coleco version except that its impossibly hard, especially with the coleco controller. A new version has come out on cell phones, just do a google on it. I wish old games like these can be re-released on Xbox live\Nintento VC or the PSN. shadow460 #15 Posted December 15, 2007 If you guys need help beating the levels, I can try to explain them. I tried to make videos of it on actual hardware, but they did not come out very well. Also, Stations 1 and 4 are a cake walk compared to Stations 6 and 9.
