lhfreak #2 Posted December 15, 2007 Well, it's been...what....12+ yrs since I played these games, but I remember playing them both pretty much at the same time. Both are games that feature several puzzles that you need to complete to win, but Myst had better themed ones IMO. In Myst, the puzzles were well integrated in the game, while 7th Guest was like 'ok, in this room you have THIS puzzle' and in that room you have THAT puzzle etc. Myst was involving and engaging. You could feel as if you really were there. 7th Guest just had a pasted on theme. Plus the story line in Myst was more fun for me than 7th Guest
Bruce Tomlin #3 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) Because the original version of Myst was built around a hacked version of Hypercard. Yeaaaah. Edited December 22, 2007 by Bruce Tomlin
A Sprite #4 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) Myst filled a niche'. Aside from the 7th Guest, you could play The Mansion of Hidden Souls, Phantasmagoria, and Alone in the Dark. Want comedy? Maniac Mansion. Want retro? Try the Uninvited. It's easy to forget hardcore gamers aren't the only ones looking at games. Some people liked the idea of a more relaxing game, and even if it's puzzles failed to make logical sense, that only added to the ambience of a dream.
