mbd30 #4 Posted December 16, 2007 I was _obsessed_ with Yie Ar Kung Fu as a kid. Loved figuring out strategies for defeating all the different fighters. 20 years later and I still can't defeat the final guy. Does "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" count as a one-on-one fighting game? 7800Lover #5 Posted December 16, 2007 If it's not counting the original Street Fighter (the first game not the second), it would be a toss-up between Karate Champ and Punch-Out (the arcade game).
DragonmasterDan #6 Posted December 16, 2007 I like Ring King.
shadow460 #7 Posted December 16, 2007 Chuck Norris Superkicks requires some one on one fighting. Does it count?
CARTRIDGE STEALER #8 Posted December 16, 2007 the original street fighter, hands down. that was the mother of all head to head fighting games.

jboypacman #12 Posted December 17, 2007 I would say either Kung-Fu Master or Karate Champ.
Crazy Climber #13 Posted December 17, 2007 The Neo Geo has several, not sure if that was really "before" Street Fighter 2 though. My vote would be for Karate Champ, lot's of fond memories on that one...
Gregory DG #14 Posted December 17, 2007 Eh... Karate Champ and Double Dragon.
kyle #15 Posted December 17, 2007 (edited) Double Dragon and Kung Fu Master aren't one on one. Though I do like both better than Steet Fighter II. Edited December 17, 2007 by kyle
Student Driver #16 Posted December 17, 2007 International Karate+ (C64, Amiga.....) I don't mean this to sound like I'm dismissing your choice-- it's a choice I've seen echoed many a time by UK gamers, that IK+ was a great game-- but I'm curious: why is a Karate Champ clone routinely held in higher regard than Karate Champ? Does it add more to the KC formula, or was KC not as well known in the UK?
Lord Helmet #17 Posted December 17, 2007 Karate Champ is a great game. I think that the 2 joystick thing is something that could be used again for a fighting game. I'm surprised that no other games use this configuration. It makes you actually learn moves rather than getting lucky with button mashes

PressureCooker2600 #19 Posted December 17, 2007 I'm one of the biggest 'Mike Tyson's Punch Out' fans. One of the best fighting games ever. Still haven't beaten Tyson or Mr. Dream.....but I've gotten close a few times. Super Punch-Out was great too....but it didn't have that "feeling" that MTPO had. And.....I, too, am a Yie Ar Kung Fu fan. Played the hell outta it at the local Pizza Hut years back.
