These guys seem to love big annoying colored explosions, not to mention some poor development skills. I simply held the stick in an endless circle round and round and cleared a few boards before the demo stopped. The same thing happens in Tempest 2000. That's why you need to select one of the later levels, and why the extremely limited demo doesn't do the game any favors.
