Most expensvie/hardest to get N64 games?

Recommended Posts

I've discovered that with enough patience, even some of the more legendary N64 titles can be had for under $20. I've grabbed Ogre Battle 64 and Harvest Moon 64 recently. Both are loose carts.

Digital Press's rarity guide doesn't seem to match the pricing or rarity schedule used in the stores I frequent. for example, Clay Fighter 63 1/3 is sold as a common title locally, yet it's listed as R4 on DP. Harvest Moon 64 is listed as R3, but sold as hard to find locally. Ditto with StarCraft 64. Blitz SE is one of the rarest games, yet it's sold at just above bargain prices locally.

What are the most expensive loose carts and the hardest to get loose carts?

Paper Mario is surprisingly hard to find. I've trying to find the block-buster exclusive Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine for a long time.

They were closing out Paper Mario at TRU along with Conker and Perfect Dark about a year or two ago. That's where I got mine.

Perhaps he meant the PAL version which I'm told is very rare

Harvest Moon and Ogre Battle are definitely two of the rarest carts. Also because they were niche games on a system aimed at a different audience most of the people who bought it were collectors so the chances of locating a copy loose are a lot lower than with other games since many of the buyers were hardcore gamers who are more likely to have retained the box and manual.

Also Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine was sold online through LucasArts website or something in addition to being a rental cart.

I've seen everything used locally besides Nuclear Strike and Stunt Racer. I don't think Harvest Moon 64 is as much rare as it is in demand.

Ehh, I think it's quite the opposite. I think Harvest Moon is rarer than the demand.

I actually had to special order it at release from a rather busy EB that received only ONE copy at release and waited three months for Natsume to print more. I think the stream of Harvest Moon games since has lowered the demand for it allowing more copies to trickle into the market place since there are better versions of the game.

I regularly would see used copies at local EB's before the 64 was dropped by that chain for sale, and bought two of them for myself and another person. Perhaps for some reason it saw heavier distribution in my area than yours.

Though you raised a very good point that I'm sure played a role in what I experienced. People have over a dozen options to go after for games in the series now (Probably closer to two dozen at the rate Harvest Moon games are pumped out these days), that saw much wider distribution than the SuperNes original (Easily the rarest of the series) and Harvest Moon 64 saw.

I've seen it for sale used a few times myself over the years, but the reason I've seen it sitting in stock places it that for an N64 game it's also fairly high priced meaning people are less likely to buy it, I think in terms of number of carts in circulation it's on the low low end.

Added in edit: This is especially relevant considering the prices of say "A Wonderful Life" for GameCube are lower than a used copy of 64.

About a year before EB Games was bought out by Gamestop, they were having one of their buy two get one free sales. My local EB had tons of N64 titles on a rack and I really took advantage of it. I picked up Starcraft 64, Ogre Battle 64 and Paper Mario plus some others. They were $24.99 each so I ended up paying less than $50 (using my edge discount) for all three titles. Now they are hard to find locally. When I do see them though, they haven't changed price much at all ($20 - $25 range). IMO, they are rarer now, but the demand isn't quite there anymore. I don't see N64 games at b & m stores going higher than $25, now ebay may be different.

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is semi common around here. @ christianscott: If you want, I'll snag one the next time I see it. They're usually less than $10.

I've seen just about everything made for the 64 locally except Worms Armageddon. Maybe I need to focus more on the system while Game X Change is still offering a good amount of in store credit for the carts. Once they dropped the Game Boy offers to $1 in store credit, the rotation of new stock dropped like a rock.

I have a boxed US N64 set missing about 10 manuals. If you arent going for a boxed game, any game is available under $20...but it can add up quickly. Boxed games are getting harder to find. For my set, two boxed games were a pain to get:

1. ISS Soccer 2000

2. Clayfighter 63 1/3 Sculptors Cut

I am still looking for a manual for my Clay Fighter Sculptors cut. I will pay well for it.

I think my biggest pain to get by far was Goldeneye. I got my cart on or about Dec 21st, 1997. Granted that Goldeneye is dirt common now, but they were in short supply when I got mine.

Beyond that, Blitz SE took some patience to get. Everything else was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

I havent really paid attention to rarity guides on N64, just going off what I want most and cant find in the wild. I've seen Paper Mario a few places but it was always a good deal more than I wanted to pay. I'm sure a copy of Indiana Jones will turn up someday. I've got 75 or so N64 games without even really trying, I'd have many more if I would pay over $5 a game too. Its the last great cart console to collect for.

prices for rare-but-not-grail games are really difficult to pinpoint. often times, you'll end up paying more for a more common-but-higher-demand game on the same system. on the N64 the Mario Party games come to mind. they are hardly difficult to find, but they are almost always in the upper price tier of whatever store has copies.

Sin and Punishment is the game to get. Its a japanese import that is similar to to space harrier but way better. It is made by that wonderful company known as "TREASURE"! They are responsible for Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, and Gunstar Heroes!

Well, the games I am currently searching the pawns for are: Goldeneye, Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and, maybe, Paper Mario, and maybe, Super Smash Bros. I just received Donkey Kong 64(In almost brand-new condition) from my sis, for my birthday. So, now, I have that one, so I can scratch it off the list.

That's why now is an awesome time to get into N64 collecting. They seem to be very easy to come by, and for the most part pretty cheap. I got my first N64 last year and have been appreciating what a great system I missed the first time around. Not that I'm complaining, I was pretty poor when it was new, and getting games for $3-5 a piece is pretty nice. :)

Now if I could just find a nice cheap copy of Beetle Adventure Racing, I'd be a happy camper.

Finding ANYTHING good for the 64 is tough in my area. Mostly you find 80billion sports titles. I have managed to find Majora's Mask with the holographic label and gold cart (dunno if this was the way it was released or a variant), and a Rogue Squadron. Other than that, my 64 collection is nada.

Like I said in the thrift threads, my area seems to have dried up an awful lot.

Majora's Mask comes only in a gold cart. there's a holo label and a flat label--IMO, they both look sharp.

did you get an expansion pak to go with it?
