Gabriel #1 Posted January 3, 2008 In the past, I've said some bad things about Halo. And really, I still stand behind most of them, particularly my position that the Halo series is just another bland FPS where you wander around the typical mazes with different set dressings and shoot things while hitting waypoints/gathering keys. As you might imagine, I don't enjoy the single player mode. Not too long ago, I finally picked up the original Halo because it dropped down to $10. I grew tired of the single player mode before I was even a few yards into the second level of the game. But one day when I had some friends over, I took the disc down and popped it in the 360 so we could have something to do. It immediately joined Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur as one of the games we always try to play when we have get togethers. We laughed. We cursed. We trash talked. The process is repeating with Halo 3. Once again, the single player mode isn't worth spending any time with, but we're having a lot of fun with multiplayer split screen. I guess it's like a fighting game in that respect.

It helps to have at least two 360 consoles running system link. Its a much funner experience not playing split screen. Also if you haven't yet, I'd snag Quake 4, Its another one of those must play games when company comes over.

I have finished all of them.... and Halo was the largest, halo 2 was the shortest and halo 3 had the best graphics
vdub_bobby #4 Posted January 4, 2008 (edited) Halo blew me away when I first played it through, but my experience on FPSs prior to Halo was mostly GoldenEye, Doom, and Duke Nukem 3D, so take this with a grain of salt. On further plays, I'd have to say that Halo's first level is pretty boring, the 2nd is very pretty but I kept getting lost, and the library level is an utter abomination of boredom. But - there are at least 6 other levels and they are awesome. IMHO. I have never, in my entire video game life, had so much fun trying and retrying the same levels as I did on Halo. I was kind of shocked myself, since usually if I can't beat an area of a game after 3 or 4 tries in one sitting I get pissed and turn it off. But there was just something about Halo where it was actually fun to play the same area over and over again, trying different ways to beat it, trying absolutely goofy things to see if they would work, etc. I also appreciate the 2-weapon limit - it forces some strategy, sure, but it also gives the game more of an arcade, pick-up-and-play feel; it is very simple to switch weapons, no cycling through a 10-weapon list in the heat of battle. Halo 2 is basically Halo only better. Better enemies - better AI and more variety - better graphics, streamlined interface, a few new features, some brilliant levels. Some boring levels too, but not nearly as many. Really, the first level is the only one I'd rather have skipped. The story is more involved than Halo's, and just as idiotic, and the cliffhanger ending was slightly disappointing. The addition of boss battles was kind of stupid, too. I will say, though, that immediately after beating Halo 2 - immediately, as in without getting off the couch - I replayed the last level. Just a ton of fun; it left me wanting more. Incidentally, I just played and beat them both for the first time in 2007. Finishing Halo 2 I, for a moment, considered wild thoughts about buying a 360 and Halo 3. Then reality set in and I remembered that the reason I'm playing Halo for the first time in 2007 is because I'm stone broke. But that's just my subjective experience, so take it for what it's worth. Lord Thag #5 Posted January 5, 2008 It seems people either love or hate the single player. I love it. Epic and fun, and the enemy AI is unmatched. I still play the orginial, and it's still different every time I play it. I though Halo 3 was outstanding, if a bit too short. To each his own, I guess. +remowilliams #6 Posted January 5, 2008 I've really enjoyed the single player portion of all the Halo's - but multiplayer split-screen coop on them has been some of the most fun I've ever had in videogaming. I've played through each of the Halo's several times that way with different friends. Once they start, they never want to stop!
