Got a major SNES sound issue, need to know what's wrong with the unit

Recommended Posts

I just came back from buying a SNES Mini, and upon hooking it up and testing it, I'm getting an image, controllers work fine, but I'm getting a very annoying buzzing sound with every game I put in(from the TV, not the system). Could something be blown inside the machine, maybe a defective sound chip or something? I need to know as fast as possible because I bought this thing for collecting's sake and I don't want to send it back.

You sure don't have good luck with SNES'.

Does it make the noise when the system is turned off?

You must have it hooked up to the TV with the composite cables if it is a mini.

Did you try a different AV cable?

Is it a humming, or more of a buzzing?

does it change when you wiggle the cable?

It sure doesn't look like it. I only have one fully functional system.

Does it make the noise when the system is turned off?

No, the noise comes from my TV's speakers every time I turn on the system.

You must have it hooked up to the TV with the composite cables if it is a mini.

Well, obviously.

Did you try a different AV cable?

I've tried two cables out of all those I have and it doesn't change a thing.

Is it a humming, or more of a buzzing?

It's buzzing, kind of like static or something, worsens when a sound clip is playing.

does it change when you wiggle the cable?

Haven't done it for too long, but it didn't change a thing. I even tried to clean the contacts on the A/V port(mind you, this system looks quite beat-up), but to no avail.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE! I've been dying to get a SNES Mini and I don't want to have to ship it back.

NEW DEVELOPMENT: I just discovered that the noise seems to come from the power supply input. The system came with a third-party power supply with power rating DC 9V 800mA with negative tip, while Nintendo's original one is rated DC 10V 850mA. Something tells me the system is receiving too much power or something, or maybe there's bad noise insulation or something around the power supply are(that thing's so damn close to the A/V outs, I'm not surprised that would have a been a source of noise). Who has a SNES Mini? Tell me if your system does the same thing.

Never mind, guys, I had to part with it, but I got an FC Twin in exchange. What a great little jewel.
