Fantastic Voyage => Taitos Bio Attack?

Recommended Posts

In premise, it would be the other way around. Taito's arcade game Bio Attack is clearly based on the same plotline as the film Fantastic Voyage.

The copyright dates show that the 2600 version still came first, tho (but it's true that similar games appear to have been inspired by the film's premise...like Microsurgeon, etc.).

I'd say Bio Attack is an adaptation of the Fox game Fantastic Voyage-- check out the title-screen:

(For those who can't see attachments-- it says "Licensed by Fox Video Games, Inc.")

The original movie doesn't immediately suggest the scrolling-shooter gameplay of this and the 2600 title, so the nearly-identical gameplay between the two suggests a common lineage; the license coming from the video game division as opposed to 20th Century Fox itself, owners of the movie license, suggests Taito wanted the IP of the game concept itself, as opposed to the IP of the movie concept.
