How long are your gaming sessions?

I've got the kiddos on a strict policy in regards to the Xbox 360: That the xbox is not to be on for more than 2 hours. Then it must take a 30-60 minute rest time before they can play again.

 

Am I being to strict? I'm a bit worried about Rrod... not their playing habits.

I just know that is I turn them loose with Halo 3, they will play it throughout the entire night. I don't want to ruin that sucker right away.

 

I have an Arcade Pack (anyone got a harddrive they wanna sell me). I've had some people tell me that only the first generation of xbox 360 consoles had the Rrod issues. Have they been fixed on these newer sytems?

If you are only doing it to spare yourself from RRoD...don't.

The issue isn't near as bad these days, My gaming sessions can go on all night I work from home and the 360 stays on pretty much the whole time, in fact I have often times accidently left my 360 on over night and haven't any issues with RRoD yet. If you get RRoD, pack the sucker up and send it back to MS. You'll have it back in 2 weeks or so, and can use the time waiting on it's return playing catch, going for walks outside and various other family bonding sessions.

My 360 is on the majority of the time we are home because we use it for games, movies, music...I even went as far as to rip a few hundred movies to an external HD and have it hooked up as well. We literally use it all the time, and in long (multi hour) stretches.

 

I wouldn't worry about the RROD. If your console is defective, you will get it. At least its not a huge hassle to get it fixed. They aren't even making you wait for a box anymore. They just have you print a shipping label and slap it on your box.

I've played it for much more extended periods than that. I'd say it's not unusual for it to be powered up and running a game for 4 hours. If not that, then it tends to get used as a DVD player when it's already on. There are some weekends where it's on all day.

Eases my mind as well. I've been clearing off my desktop here and running the thing out in the open so I could get ample ventilation everywhere. Of course, I've known that the Intercoolers and similar devices are a definite "no-no" (although I already knew this as I had a friend screw up his 360 using one). I've also read of some people using desktop fans to aid in cooling the machine, but most people seem to agree that this does very little to help, and it's probably best just to let the 360 work as it was designed to do.

 

As my 360 was manufactured Oct. 6, 2007, and is one of the newer Pro models with the HDMI port, I'm assuming it's using the cooler Falcon chipset and all. The machine doesn't appear to run what I would call "extremely" hot. Just hot, at around the temperature my laptop runs or maybe a little cooler than that.

 

So far, the only thing that somewhat concerns me is that after about a minute of being on, I'll hear this faint "tick" inside that I can only guess is metal expanding somewhere inside. When I turn the console off, after a minute of cooling down, I can hear the click again. Does this sound normal?

Cool stuff to read. I was a bit worried. And after playing Bioshock last night for a bit, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to put the controller down. That game is really really nice. The details, the music, the whole atmoshpere is really cool. An amazing game for sure. I just encountered a Big Daddy for the first time. Holly Shit! Amazing! There is a second Big Daddy on this level... I'm a bit afraid to search him out. I hear his big ass stomping around though.

 

Either way, I'm glad to know that I can play more than I originally thought. The kiddos have a 'no playing videogames on a schoolday' rule at our house. That gives me a chance to play during the week on the big TV.

 

Did the first 360s come without the HDMI? Mine has HDMI on it... I'm not sure what year it was manufactured... but being that it is an arcade pack I'm sure it is fairly new.

I've had mine since February of '06 & have had many a looooong day & night of gaming. Knock on wood, no problems yet.

been a year and a half with mine and so far no problems either. I don't play it all that often, but I have played it for hours on end as well as hours watching movies.
