ATARIPITBULL #1 Posted January 11, 2008 Am I the only one here having any kind of problem playing some hacks or homebrews for the 2600? I have a sixxer that I play all my games on but every once in a while I will receive a new game that just does not want to even go inside my system. I example I bought a copy of "Lord of the Rings" which some one put inside of a Parker Bros cart case and the damn thing does not want to stay down in the cart port, it just keeps poping out and some others that come in Atari cases I have trouble pushing them in, I have to wiggle them at different angles just to get them to go in. I have never had any problems with original games from the compaines. Anyone else here having the same problems that I am or do you think its just my sixxer that might be messed up? MagMax667 #2 Posted January 12, 2008 You know, I've had the same problem with a few of my Homebrew carts. The main problem I have is that certain cartridges won't slide all the way down into the cartridge slot. I own two Atari 2600s: a light-sixer and a Colecovision Expansion Module. For the most part, the games that don't fit into my 2600 fit into my Expansion Module just fine (Raster Fahndung from Simon Quernhorst comes to mind, among others.) Some games are also just the opposite, they'll fit into my 2600 but not my Expansion module (very strange.) The only game I have NOT been able to play so far has been Elevator Action. I have another CGE reproduction that works fine on both systems (Crack'ed) but for some reason, no matter how hard I try, Elevator Action just won't go into either. I hear that a lot of the games that don't work on earlier systems WILL work on later models, like the 2600 Jr. and the 7800, and the seller of Elevator Action said that the game worked fine on his Coleco Gemini, so the model of the 2600 seems to have something to do with it. I plan on buying a 7800 soon, so I'll see how that goes. Is there another 2600 model you can try playing Lord of the Ring on? Namely, a 7800 or a 2600 Jr? bah #3 Posted January 12, 2008 Not only hacks have problems. I have a 1987 Vanguard that slides in very snug then comes out so hard you are afraid of breaking something. It appears to be original and unmolested, but the thickness is oversize enough that the plastic on the outside of the cart shows scrapes from rubbing. This is on my heavy 6 but my 4 switch or junior fit the cart ok but more snug than normal. The same cart fits good in the 7800, nu rub at all. Mirage #4 Posted January 12, 2008 My Sears heavy sixer has trouble taking some carts (extremely tight fit), so much so that I don't even use it anymore. Instead, I use a light sixer and have no problems at all with anything, including homebrews.
+Omegamatrix #5 Posted January 12, 2008 Yeah, my Heavy has the same problem. The port is smaller on those so the open ended style carts from Atari (like the red labels) are a bitch to get in. I usually just play on a 4 switch as it gives me no problems.
jetset #6 Posted March 11, 2008 Me too. My copy of Stella's Stocking barely fits into the slot of my sixer. I know I have a few other hacks and homebrews that are a tight fit as well.
