Segataritensoftii #1 Posted January 12, 2008 (edited) Janitor Joe (PC): The one I'm talking about is the Game Maker version. It was this guy's first game, and it got generally bad reviews across the board. But, for one reason or another, I love it. I think it's the last two bits near the end where the dialog becomes extremely witty and there's actually MUSIC! And it's much better than the music at the title screen. It's the James Bond theme! And, call me crazy, but in my opinion, there's nothing better than running away from a bolder in a tenth rate platformer while the James Bond theme plays in the background. And in the last level, you get chased by a little thing the game calls a munchkin, for some reason. And the dialog in that bit is HILARIOUS! At least to me it is. Rocket Power: Gettin' Air (GBC): I should hate this game. I really should. But for me, it seems to have a certain addictive quality that makes me want to play it over & over again. Must be because of the nostalgia factor of it being the first game I ever owned. Any of you have any games you have love (but really should hate) relationships with? accousticguitar #2 Posted January 13, 2008 Carnival. I thought it would be lame, but it's actually fun.
Atari5200 #3 Posted January 13, 2008 Tournament Cyberball for the Lynx. From what I read, I think it's mandatory to hate the game in order to own a Lynx, but I find it rather fun and enjoyable.
Student Driver #4 Posted January 13, 2008 Surprised RT hasn't made it in here to beat me to the punch, but ET for me. Like Atari5200's explanation of Tournament Cyberball, it seems that you are required to hate ET, but I like it. It's one of the better adventure games for the 2600-- IMO bested only by Adventure and Superman. I play it often and by choice! Squeeze Box. I love this game. Realsports Volleyball, Activision's Tennis, Realsports Tennis 2600 and XE, World Court Tennis, all of the Decathlon/* Games/Track and Field type games. I hate sports IRL, but love these games. In fact, I tend to love tennis and multi-sport games in general, regardless of console. GTA, GTA2. Everyone acts like GTA didn't truly start until III, but I was a fiend for the originals, even if they resembled Genesis games ported to the PS. superjudge3 #5 Posted January 14, 2008 Fight For Life, Kasumi Ninja, and Checkered Flag...all for the Atari Jaguar. Yep, I said it, what are you going do about it?
phuzzed #6 Posted January 14, 2008 Definetly E.T. Here's why: I grew up in a small neighborhood--actually a rural community, and a bunch of people got E.T. for Xmas or whatever, and NOBODY could figure the damn game out. One winter snow day, school was called off, my brother and I borrowed my cousin's E.T. catridge, READ the instructions, and figured out how to get E.T. home. We played that game all day. We had a hell of a high score, but my mom made us shut it off at around 9:00 that night. I remember pulling the catridge out of the 2600, and it was really warm from an entire game of game play. But, whenever I see that game, I think of that day, and sometimes, I'll just shove it into the 2600 to make sure I still know how to get E.T. home.... Gregory DG #7 Posted January 14, 2008 I liked Cyberball for Lynx... But then, I like football when it's distilled down to that basic form anyway. A lot of people prefer football with all the complexities built-in.
midnight magicman #8 Posted January 14, 2008 Atari 2600 Backgammon. Ok, maybe I don't "love" it. But it's the only Atari game I can play when I'm "nearly passed out" drunk. Peace
Lord Thag #9 Posted January 14, 2008 Atari 2600 Backgammon. Ok, maybe I don't "love" it. But it's the only Atari game I can play when I'm "nearly passed out" drunk Heh, that makes two people in the world who like it. I picked it up for $2 as a kid back when that was my 'allowance'. I was really happy to get a game, as back then, new VCS games were limited to birthdays and christmas. Played it after school all the time, and got pretty good at it. I also am fond of E.T. Here's one. Deadly Towers for the NES. Everyone hates it. It makes the top slot on the 'worst games ever' list all the time. I have no idea why. It's huge, challenging, and there are a TON of secrets. I've actually beaten it too, which is serious bragging rights. The game is friggin' hard! kevincal #10 Posted January 14, 2008 Mortal Kombat, Cruis'n USA, Pinball NES. Can't think of any more.
Quadhorn #11 Posted January 14, 2008 PSX Bust-a-Groove. Y'know, the cheesy dance-'em-up thing, not the bubble-puzzle thing (Bust-A-Move = entirely different). And the sequel. Maybe it's the way the stages start blowing up when you do well, maybe it's the dancing mouse...
joeybastard #12 Posted January 14, 2008 Urban Champion on the NES. I know it stinks, but I love it. Surround on the VCS. Everybody else gets bored after 1 game but I dig it. I even have fun making pixel pictures with the video graffiti setting.
+doctorclu #13 Posted January 14, 2008 As many already know, Bubsy for the Atari Jaguar. I also enjoy the other "hated" games like Club Drive, Fight for Life, and had a blast with Kasumi Ninja. To me it has always been a case of I tried it, I liked it (if the controls were "bad" like in Bubsy, I just thought I sucked and worked to get better") and then years later people would tell me "Oh yeh, that game sucks." Fun fun. Also liked E.T. for the 2600, Surrounded was fun from what I remember of it, and I want to check out Game Maker... was that for the Atari 8 bit computers? Maybe I could make a version of Bubsy with it.

Kripto #15 Posted January 14, 2008 I get a lot of replay value out of the arcade game Juno First, which many dismiss as a perspective-modified Defender clone. It soon becomes a truly angry, vengeful game after just a few waves are cleared...
jboypacman #16 Posted January 15, 2008 Space Jockey i just dig this game for some odd reason.

Ghost Soldier #18 Posted January 15, 2008 Fight For Life, Kasumi Ninja, and Checkered Flag...all for the Atari Jaguar. Yep, I said it, what are you going do about it? Glad to see there is someone else that likes Checkered Flag.
A Sprite #19 Posted January 15, 2008 Kiss Psycho Circus. Yes, the enemy design was designed by a Make-A-Wish puppy on the rug before it was put to sleep, and the cinemas make Ed Wood rise from his grave and shout: "I am vindicated at last!" None of that matters. What's important is it's Gauntlet done up Quake style, with a touch of Rocky Horror drag. Wait until the 100 4 legged headless spiders (a special fuck you, from the developers to the polycounters), and three lightening throwing clown robots surround you to the tune of "I wanna Rock and Roll all Night." Bad taste? The worst. You know you want to try it.
joeybastard #20 Posted January 15, 2008 Ugghhh I have Psycho Circus on the DC but I find it totally unplayable. No love for it other than the curiosity value of being Kiss related.
ScottHuggins #21 Posted January 15, 2008 JBoy- Space Jockey? You really like that game? I like Bowling for the 2600. I have a blast with that game.
Segataritensoftii #22 Posted January 15, 2008 Also liked E.T. for the 2600, Surrounded was fun from what I remember of it, and I want to check out Game Maker... was that for the Atari 8 bit computers? Maybe I could make a version of Bubsy with it. There was an 8 bit program called Game Maker, but I thing it was only on the Apple II and C64, not the Atari 8bits. The one I'm talking about is that windows program that came out in late 2000 and now has it's own game sharing site called Yoyo Games.
joeybastard #23 Posted January 15, 2008 JBoy- Space Jockey? You really like that game? I like Bowling for the 2600. I have a blast with that game. I like Bowling and Space Jockey. Does that make me some kind of bisexual?
Video #24 Posted January 15, 2008 Maybe Checkered Flag for the Jaguar, I know, the contr0olls are shitty, and a chunk of the game is missing, but for me, it's just that old school look of flat nontextured polys, does something for me. BallBlazer for eht 7800, don't know why, but everybody seems to hate this game, hell, it's just a one on one 3D (ish) soccer game, and the computer's actually good on higher settings. Pac-man for the 2600, everybody knows it, everybody hates it (possibnley even more than ET) but I love it, back in the days, I was actually dissapppointed the first time I saw the Arcade version, as the ghosts weren't even transparrent on there.
