Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Elements

Any of you PC gamers got the word on this game? It looks freaking awesome. I've never heard of it, but looking around this is getting to be an old game now, the original PC version is from 2006. This comes out in Feb on the 360, and from the videos I've seen, I thinking about buying this along with Culdcept Saga next month. Is it a good buy?

Oooo Another 360 RPG? Nice.

I've played previous Might & Magic games on the PS2, could best be described as an action RPG.

Wasn't the best of it's type, the series typically gets pretty crappy ratings, (Although to be fair some have rated pretty good.) but from what I recall it was a decent enough to warrent a play through. I wouldn't pay full price to do it though, or at least I'd wait for a few reviews before paying full price just because of the uneven-ness of the series.

I think you should watch the video at the link I provided from Amazon. This looks to me like a FPS with swords instead of guns. It might have some rpg elements ala Bioshock, but it's definitely not an rpg in the traditional sense, it's clearly a FPS.

Yeah the one I played was a 3rd person perspective behinbd the player.

I dunno what to tell you though, did you consider Oblivion a FPS or an RPG?

Might & Magic is an RPG in my book just like Oblivion was, like I said, it's not a turn based RPG, it's an action RPG.

If it's half as good as BioShock though I'll be buying it sooner than later.

I've never played Oblivion. What style do you consider Bioshock? I just consider it FPS with rpg elements, maybe an Adventure FPS might be a fitting description. Might & Magic I know to be an rpg series, but that video looks like an FPS all the way. It looks to me to be more like a Bioshock style game with the environment interactions.

I'm very ignorant of Oblivion (and rpgs in general). I always thought Oblivion was one of those MMORPG games which I'm not interested in.

Oblivion was simply put, one of the best RPGs ever, definately not a MMORPG, the game has no online elements at all.

I personally would consider BioShock a FPS with RPG elements.

I would consider Oblivion an RPG with a first person perspective.

I suspect M&M will be more like Oblivion than BioShock.

My advice to you is to forget M&M and get Oblivion A.S.A.P. !!

Oblivion is one of my favorite RPGS's I've ever played. Its not at all a MMORPG. Its a single player game all the way. (Hopefully co-op on the next one).

Try Oblivion if you like D&D\LOTR type fantasy. Its worth it.

There is a demo of this game available on Live. The graphics engine is pretty awful. It makes me feel like I'm in fish eye view or as if I have a sphere around me. The enemy AI is god awful as well. I think I'll be skipping this one.

moycon you nailed it, this game is definitely an RPG in FP view. If this is anything close to what Oblivion is I'll be sure to steer clear of that game as well. Not a big fan of straight rpgs. I played the demo of Dark Messiah one more time last night and at the end of a level I had to fight a Giant Spider, it was hilariously bad and boring!

I'll second moycon's vote for oblivion, if you haven't played it. It was a launch title, and it's so ginourmous, I'm *still* playing it two years later. Put in about six hours this weekend, actually. Especially since the Game of the year edition is out. That is *lot* of content for $60!

Is it just me, or is Sheogorath in Shivering Isles just about the most hilariously evil baddie ever? Cheese for everyone!

Oh, and M&M is a bit of a departure from the series, I hear. while the old ones were huge and involving, this one is much 'dumbed down' I hear. Only about twenty hours or so long. It's supposed to be fun, but much more arcadey than it's forebearers, or so I've heard. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

Ok, I got around to playing the demo and I'm completely underwhelmed. Apparently its not an RPG, its a button masher FPS with swords. And the fighting got boring just in the demo. How many times can you kick someone into spikes before it gets old? Not all that many, when it's apparently a major feature and selling point for a game I'll tell you that. When this game gets down to the $10 range, I'll pick up a copy.

I had high hopes for this one, too bad its a turd. :(

I haven't even tried the demo. I heard they removed most of the RPG elements of the game, the last thing I want to play is an RPG with it's RPG elements removed!
