Is the xbox 1 now unsupported?

Recommended Posts

As the title basically. i have aquired an xbox crystal really cheap and am just wondering if the mk1 xbox still has new commercial game support in the same way as the PS2? My local game store doesn't have much in the way of new games onlt a lot of second hand stuff. Just curious really.

Thanks!

Chris

As far as I know: NO!

I guess MS even encouraged not to develop for the old Xbox anymore whereas Sony decided to extend the lifecycle of the PS2 for some more years.

Dude.. once the 360 came out it was the death of commercial support for the regular xbox (after they released what they had pending of course ;))

That being said an xbox is a wonderful thing when properly coaxed. I have many of them and put them in front of each tv.

Game FAQs doesn't list any new games coming out for it, so I'd say that support is indeed dead.

It sucks. Stupid Microsoft.

But there are still MANY great games out there for the X-Box.....if you haven't had one yet.

Top 2 X-Box games on my list that are both UBER-cheap now are:

Star Wars: KOTOR

Star Wars: KOTOR 2

2 of the best RPGs ever created.

Great for emulation and as a media center, if you can be bothered to soft/hard mod it and install a bigger HDD

Come on now, the Xbox 360 has been out for over two years now. Why would MS support two consoles? I guess if the Xbox sold 100 million units like the PS2, there should still be support for it. But really, from MS's viewpoint, the Xbox served it's purpose and it was time to move on.

You would have seen this coming a mile away if you were familiar with the way Microsoft markets its operating systems. According to Bill Gates, Windows XP was the best thing in the universe until a week before the Windows Vista product launch. After that, he and his cronies disavowed any knowledge of its existence faster than you can say "Peter Graves." This is standard operating procedure in Redmond... squeeze a product for all it's worth, then kick it to the curb when it becomes inconvenient and the next big thing comes along.

Of course, this strategy doesn't work when their latest product is a steaming load of crap. See also Windows ME and Vista.

Thanks for the info guys! OK I have a PS2 and PS2 already so what games are must haves for the xbox, either games that are much better than there PS2 versions or exclusive titles. This is my first go with xbox as I'm am very un-microsoft(I have a MAC) so I bet there's loads of great games I missed.

I don't think that it would make sense to keep dumping money into a console

that's security was so severely compromised.

While it may have been a boon to the homebrew community, It probably hurt

game developers quite a bit.

There are no new Gamecube titles coming out either. Sony sold almost 3 times as many PS2s as Gamecubes and Xboxes combined. It only makes sense for Nintendo and Microsoft to move on and for Sony to continue to milk PS2 as long as they still can. Also NVIDIA who made the video cards for the Xbox is now with Sony. That means no more Xboxes can be made. So there are multiple reasons why Xbox isn't supported anymore.

Yeah, it's a shame they aren't making new games for xbox but on the bright side, you can buy lots of used games cheap! This morning I bought Scrapland for just under 5 bucks!
