Mike 01Hawk #1 Posted February 10, 2008 Diablo II is still going strong what... 8 years after inception. With that in mind, how long do you think it'll be before there is a continuous never ending online game?!?! Do you see WoW in 20 years down the road?!? What kind of theme do you think would have holding power? Obviously a subscription service would be needed for the devs to keep on trucking, but what if the gamers became the parents and created their own world... hmmmm ?!?!? mos6507 #2 Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) MMORPGs aren't true virtual reality because it has to bend the rules to make the environment sustainable. In a true simulated reality it would be trashed like Pleasure Island in Pinnocchio in no time. People are basically paying good money in order to gain the freedom to do things they can't do in the real world, which pretty much means a lot of violence and depravity. So I'm just not sure how much more reality can be injected into online worlds than already is there. Edited February 10, 2008 by mos6507
Vic George 2K3 #3 Posted February 10, 2008 In a Star Trek holodeck you can trash whatever's in the simulated reality (provided that it doesn't effect the controls of the simulated reality) and then just reset the thing and have everything back to its original spic-and-span appearance. Mike 01Hawk #4 Posted February 11, 2008 True true, mos6507. That's what I always thought funny about D2 or WoW... especially with WoW. I JUST KILLED THE BAD GUY... WHY IS HE BACK!?!?!?! No real sense of 'world accomplishment', only 'self accomplishment'.
aikainnet #5 Posted February 12, 2008 Just look at Second Life, there is an ever-growing online game right there, sure its not really an RPG but yeah... its ever growing

(What was that for? Multi User Simulated Holucination) People would make houses, live, and even business confereneces happened in MUSH's. A lot of this is like that, just with graphics. Vic George 2K3 #7 Posted February 12, 2008 Now there's an oxymoronic phrase..."simulated hallucination".
