+atari2600land #1 Posted February 12, 2008 I made a 2k homebrew game using bB, and I want to know what you think of it. Basically, it's a reverse Fast Food in which you dodge the food instead of eating it. If you touch a piece of food, your stomach grows bigger. The game ends when your stomach reaches the other side of the screen. You get a point for each group of food you don't touch. virtualdieter2008.bas.bin virtualdieter2008.bas
Prodos8 #2 Posted February 12, 2008 Not to bad. I think you might want to add an item to lose weight too. Once your grow a certain amount its all but impossible to go on. Maybe a diet pill or health foods. Nice effort though, especially for 2k.
+uosipa llamxew #3 Posted February 12, 2008 The food items often overlap and there is quite a lot of flicker, but the game is pretty fun. Some ideas: Barbells or other excercise equipment power-up that takes an inch off of your waist Vary the pace... start slow and move quicker during a bout of the munchies. A Dexatrim pill power-up that makes you temporarily invincible from food items - Haha.
+atari2600land #4 Posted February 12, 2008 Added a diet pill. This little pill will take a pfblock off your stomach if you touch it. In order to keep the game 2k though, I had to reduce the number of different foods down to 2: A yummy chocolate bar and equally scrumptious fried shrimp. And, the foods (and pill) are one-colored instead of two-colored. virtualdieter2.bas.bin virtualdieter2.bas
Impaler_26 #5 Posted February 12, 2008 I tried the latest version, plays ok but IMO the food still flickers too much and sometimes it overlaps... It's not easy to make a good 2k game with bB, but this is a nice start. Maybe you should kick out the title-screen to save a few bytes.
Jess Ragan #6 Posted February 13, 2008 And here I was thinking that it was going to be a simulation of that character from Saturday Night Live!
+atari2600land #7 Posted February 13, 2008 If I take out the sound completely, I have room for a bunch of different options. So I did. Now the game has two speeds: low and high, determined by the difficulty switch. Also, if you press game reset switch, the game actually resets! And, I added the purple pickles from Fast Food. 19 bytes left. So, is the sound important, or would you rather have the difficulty settings and three foods instead of 1 difficulty setting and two foods? virtualdieter4.bas.bin virtualdieter4.bas
MagMax667 #8 Posted February 13, 2008 I think this is shaping up to be a really good game. The second difficulty level really adds a dimension of gameplay. The slower speed gets a bit repetitive, whereas the faster speed becomes very frantic and quite a challenge. I like that there are both skill levels. You can practice on the slower level, then switch over for a real challenge. I think that the diet pills are a nice touch. I think that power-ups keep the game from being too hard on the faster level. As for the sound effects, I think the game works just as well without them. I don't think they added too much, and losing them in favor of the two skill levels seems fine to me. All in all, I think you made a really good, addicting game. Great job! +atari2600land #9 Posted February 21, 2008 Latest version. I only have 3 bytes left! What I did was add more color to the guy and redesigned his sprite a little. What do you think of him now? virtualdieter6.bas.bin virtualdieter6.bas
