slosu #1 Posted February 28, 2008 Has anyone called off from work or stayed home from school to play Atari? I've know some guys to call off of work when Madden is released or good RPG but what about Atari. If you have what games were you playing? I remember doing this once when I was younger when Pitfall II was released, I couldn't put that game down. Steve

Steve I once played space invaders for 3-4 hours straight (was quite in the zone, flipped the score several times). When I looked up it was 11ish and I'd missed the first half of the school day. Mom wasn't happy.
Recycled #3 Posted February 28, 2008 Shoot....I was going to take tomorrow off to play video games....but we don't have enough people.
Dauber #4 Posted February 28, 2008 Believe me, I've been tempted to. I will tell you this...I was going to work out tonight, but I haven't touched an Atari game in weeks...last time I did was before they locked the Toyshop Trouble HSC thread...I just got five homebrews (holiday sale!) that I'm dying to try out! +doctorclu #5 Posted February 29, 2008 I feel like I have, but I can't recall a specific time. I do know I have stayed up all night and gone to school/work with little to no sleep most of my life. Does that count?
PressureCooker2600 #6 Posted February 29, 2008 I do know I have stayed up all night and gone to work with little to no sleep most of my life. Happened to me once or twice and I regretted it. Never had the balls to call in sick to work....just to play video games. Plus, I just KNOW the whole fabric of everyday life would be shattered if I wasn't there to check somebody out. RJ #7 Posted February 29, 2008 I've gone home from work an hr or 2 early to play games...or log onto AtariAge!!!
Room 34 #8 Posted February 29, 2008 One time back when I was in third grade my dad made the mistake of letting me play Pitfall! before school, and of course I was having my best game ever! So I convinced him to let me finish it even though I was going to be late, and he even gave me a ride when I was done. (Normally I walked to school but school had already started by the time I was done!) Unfortunately I didn't actually finish the game, but I did manage to run out the clock without dying, which had not happened before (other than just standing in one spot on a screen without rolling logs)... Vic George 2K3 #9 Posted February 29, 2008 The only system I know of that I have played when I was actually sick was the Nintendo 64, and that was when I was playing Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The time that my family had an Atari 2600, I was living in St. Vincent's Home in Fall River, MA, and very few kids there even had game systems like the 2600 on hand. I couldn't feign sickness there to escape being at school until I started going to Bristol Community College in my last year at St. Vincent's, and even then I didn't feign sickness to play with my Adam. jboypacman #10 Posted February 29, 2008 I have called in before after staying up late playing video games but that was years ago and i would never do that now(yeah right).
ATARIPITBULL #11 Posted February 29, 2008 Every time I call off work and don't have any place to go I'm in my game room playing Yars Revenge, Wizard of Wor, Frogger or one of my new homebrews.

brucebidder #19 Posted February 29, 2008 Why waste a sick day from work when I can easily run emulation on my work PC..... Of course when someone comes by I am forced to tab to a new window lest they find out what I am actually doing. Of course its not so easy to hide the adapter and 2600 joystick plugged into my PC.... Lord Thag #21 Posted March 1, 2008 Why take off work when you can play atari *AT* work. *cough* emulation *cough* and get paid? I have played hookey once or twice as, mainly in school. I used to skip high school and play Bruce Lee and Star Raiders on my Atari 800 more often than was healthy for my report card. I don't generally do it any more, due to my work responisbilites, but memory sticks and emulators beat the hell out of freecell on slow days.
shadow460 #22 Posted March 1, 2008 I've played on days that I had to take off for something else like sickness or doctor visits. I've never taken off specifically to play Atari. When we got back from deployment in 1997, for the first two weeks I was off work. The next two weeks, we sat in our shop and played Virtua Cop 2 from 7AM unitl 9AM, then went home. The fifth and sith week were the same, except we had to stay until about 1PM. We played Virtua Cop 2 until 1PM, then went home. Six solid weeks of goofing off is quite nice, and it didn't cost me a single day of leave!
racer raul #23 Posted March 1, 2008 Work from home... and have an 800xl & 7800 next to the lap top to sneak a game in when things are slow.
maibock #24 Posted March 1, 2008 Ahh college.. It was sometime after Christmas break during my freshman year(1985) and I had brought back to college an old black and white tv that my girlfriend's mom had given me, and my beloved 2600. My room mate came from rural South Carolina, and had never played Atari, which would soon change. That morning on a whim before classes we had hooked it up and popped in combat. Before we knew it we were running late and had both decided to blow off our first class. As with most college dorms, kids would come and go and in no time we had a nice little tournament set up. Beer was brought in, vinyl was spinning and a day was made out of it, with us successfully skipping a full day of classes
Cobra Commander #25 Posted March 1, 2008 I've gone to work, loaded my truck, then gone home to play San Andres. My boss never gave me enough work to do or would not order all the materials and then send me to do a partial job just to keep me busy. I would go home to eat up time so I would get off at close to regular time. I've also got laid on the clock several times as well as gone to job interviews. This all ended when they installed GPS trackers. I've since quit that job.
