Ace_1 #2 Posted March 5, 2008 Damn you(directed towards boxed Genesis 3)! Nice find. Too bad I can't get one for that price(or any Genesis 3 for that matter).
Rev. Rob #3 Posted March 5, 2008 Damn you(directed towards boxed Genesis 3)! Nice find. Too bad I can't get one for that price(or any Genesis 3 for that matter). Is the Genesis 3 actually considered rare? It is, by far, the worst of the three models. I've seen them for $10 and passed them up.
Ace_1 #4 Posted March 5, 2008 Yes. It was the last model released by Majesco in 1997. I don't know exactly which year the Genesis stopped being produced, but I know for a fact that since the Genesis 3 was released so late in the Genesis' life, there weren't too many produced. classicgamer24 #5 Posted March 5, 2008 thanks guy yea i figuered since it was boxed with the controller and the wires i'll take a chance and ace 1 don't worry homie im sure you'll find one sometime to rev rob yea it may be the worst of the three but now i can say i have all three sega systems it would be very nice to find the first 2 sega genesis systems boxed
shadow460 #6 Posted March 5, 2008 Huh. I figured my Gen3 was just another cheap knockoff console. I hacked it up a bit already, not knowing it was worth anything. Ironically, I found it it the trash, and it worked! Guess someone else thought it was worthless too!
+remowilliams #7 Posted March 5, 2008 I actually prefer the Gen3 for normal day to day use. It's really small and very easily modified for svideo output.
Atariboy #8 Posted March 5, 2008 I even thought the standard composite output was decent, though I seem to be alone in that regard. I use it to save space, it plays everything just fine and I don't mind that I can't have a 32X or Sega CD hooked up.
Ace_1 #9 Posted March 5, 2008 If only someone can point me to modify the Genesis 3 to work with Virtua Racing. Someone managed to make the Genesis version run on the Genesis 3, although I can't find a guide anywhere showing how to perform the mod. But then I'd need to region mod the system, as the copy of Virtua Racing I'm getting is a Japanese Mega Drive one. Should be a lot less risky(and easier) than the Model 2 region mod. classicgamer24 #10 Posted March 5, 2008 wow nice ace 1 if you find out how to mod the gen 3 let me know
Video #11 Posted March 5, 2008 I wasn't aware the Gen3 was rare. I picked it up new for $30 cause my Gen 1 was duying, and my friend (permanantly) borrowed my Gen2. No kidding, $30, I think that was it's released SRP, but I won't swear to it. I'm also one of the few that thought it had a great picture (A lot better than the lines in the other two) but eh...maybe they had a schitload of the things released with a bad resistor or short circuit and me and Atariboy got the only ones that weren't somehow f(boop)ed up internally? Don't know, but anyhow.
classicgamer24 #12 Posted March 5, 2008 wow video 30 bucks huh when did u buy it?

jboypacman #14 Posted March 6, 2008 Hmm the local game shop has one of these i might have to check it out and see how cheap it is.

spacecadet #18 Posted March 6, 2008 Damn you(directed towards boxed Genesis 3)! Nice find. Too bad I can't get one for that price(or any Genesis 3 for that matter). Is the Genesis 3 actually considered rare? It is, by far, the worst of the three models. I don't know why people say this. Honestly. It plays Megadrive games out of the box (the other two didn't) and there's something about the a/v output that I'm forgetting right now that's superior to the others too... maybe it uses a standard cable where the others don't, or it's stereo or it's got s-video output or something. It's been a while since I hooked mine up. I only use my Genesis 3 when I want to play Genesis games, mainly because I always end up wanting to play some MegaDrive games once I get going and that's the only system that'll play them without modification. classicgamer24 #19 Posted March 7, 2008 keep me posted with that jboy and nice on playing nes games
Rev. Rob #20 Posted March 7, 2008 Damn you(directed towards boxed Genesis 3)! Nice find. Too bad I can't get one for that price(or any Genesis 3 for that matter). Is the Genesis 3 actually considered rare? It is, by far, the worst of the three models. I don't know why people say this. Because I actually like my Sega CD and 32X. Anyways, I've determined that these things aren't rare, they're just a novelty item. Nomad, CDX, X'Eye, now those are cool. X'Eye, by the way, has nice video output. Video #21 Posted March 7, 2008 Hey, I thought Megadrive games would already fit in a Genesis console, I was thinking the NA ones just wouldn't fit into the megadrive (or am I mistaken in thinking the funky narrower carts are megadrive carts?) wow video 30 bucks huh when did u buy it? I bought it new at Walmart when it was released (or soon after) I think it was in 97, but wouldnt swear to it. Funny, they had some Genny games, probably some of the last releases, and they cost more than the system sitting next to them (Don't ask me, I don't remember their names, but I did pick up a whole bunch of Maximum Carnage games for like $5 at the same time)
jboypacman #22 Posted March 8, 2008 Well no Genny 3 at the gameshop oh well it was worth the look.
Dusk2600 #23 Posted March 8, 2008 The Genesis 3 is definatly great for your typical genesis needs, it is compact, cute and reliable. Though it does not work with: 32X sms powerbase converter sega cd For your typical splatterhouse 3 rounds or sonic it is great. I love you sega
ApolloBoy #24 Posted March 8, 2008 Hey, I thought Megadrive games would already fit in a Genesis console, I was thinking the NA ones just wouldn't fit into the megadrive (or am I mistaken in thinking the funky narrower carts are megadrive carts?) No, Japanese Mega Drive carts are wider than Genesis/European Mega Drive carts, so they won't fit into a Genesis without modification.
Atariboy #25 Posted March 8, 2008 The Genesis 3's composite cables are mono, there's only one audio cable.
