+remowilliams #26 Posted March 8, 2008 The Genesis 3's composite cables are mono, there's only one audio cable. Speaking of which, anyone know of a stereo mod for the Gen3? I'd love to s-video my Gen2, but its got the crappy KA2195D in it.

I ran across the mod while looking for a pinout for the A/V jack.
jboypacman #28 Posted March 9, 2008 After talking about the Genny 3 i might pick one up so i can play a few Mega Drive games for it.

You will still need to add region switches since some Mega Drive and Genesis games have a region lock on them(mostly the later games). Shouldn't be too hard, though. I don't have a link to it, but I'll put it up when I find it.

Drewman21 #31 Posted March 9, 2008 I got a Genny 3 a few years ago just to whip out to play some Shadowrun now and again. The s-video mod is super easy and well worth the video quailty bump from composite. My A/V jack was ruined when i got it so i just mapped out the pins and added my own plugs on the back. In doing so i found mine did have stereo sound. The cable that came with it was mono but it was setup for stereo. I know that other people have some revisions that are only mono and you will have to build a amp. Here is the pinout if you are looking to find the stereo. Ace_1 #32 Posted March 10, 2008 Thanks Ace. Well, you can really thank me now. Here's the link to region-modding the Genesis 3 and a whole lot of other Genesis systems: http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/gen2import.htm The Genesis 3 instructions are after those for the Pioneer LaserActive. +remowilliams #33 Posted March 10, 2008 Here is the pinout if you are looking to find the stereo. Genesis A/V pinouts Got a stereo AV cable already, need to know the board level details to get the second channel to the jack on the Gen3.
shadow460 #34 Posted March 10, 2008 If someone does find that stereo mod, be sure and post it. If it uses readily available components, I'll probably mod my own console.

RocketLawnChair #36 Posted March 12, 2008 Nice. That's the way video game hunting should be. Interesting note about the Genesis 3: They use a CXA1645 video encoder, meaning you can tap a quality s-video signal with minimal effort. Yours is boxed, so I'm guessing you don't want to, but it's a nice option. Another cool thing about the Genesis 3 is, you don't have to perform any casing mods if you're looking to play Mega Drive titles. Carts will slide right in. Certain scenarios you'll need a region mod, but my Euro version of Zero Wing always played fine on my bone stock Genny 3.

I actually prefer the Gen3 for normal day to day use. It's really small and very easily modified for svideo output. It plays Megadrive games out of the box (the other two didn't)
