Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

Recommended Posts

Has anybody here picked this one up? I saw some commercials for it and I have to say the concept seems almost too intriguing to turn away, that is as long as the story line is done correctly.

So, is the game decent? Is the story as good you would think it should be? Gameplay ok?

I thought it looked awesome, too.....kinda like Freedom Fighters, except with Nazis.

But my friend said it was HORRIBLE. I usually take his opinion when it comes to FPS' and that type stuff.

I have the game and I'm enjoying it, but the game is not without its faults.

Many people complain about the graphic's, and you certainly won't confuse TP with CoD4, but I find the graphics more than sufficient and not a distraction to enjoyment in any way. There have been some complaints about control, especially finding the "sweet spot" on an object to get an action icon to appear, but I've had no problem at all with controls or in opening doors, going hand-over-hand, etc. Some of the grapple executions are fun to perform, such as hurling a Nazi off a rooftop or into an oven. The plot of the game is very interesting, especially with using real people from history taking on new roles, such as President Dewey resigning. Sound is great, especially in 5.1 surround. Weapons are pretty nice, but I'm early in the game and haven't stumbled on a lot of different ones yet. AI could be a bit better but isn't terrible. Soundtrack is excellent. Voice overs are ho-hum. So basically. nothing within the game says "I'm unplayable" but nothing says "Egad's, I'm the greatest" either.

Some things that I find annoying about the game:

1) No onscreen compass that "helps" you with finding your objective. A compass is included in almost every FPS that is released nowadays but not in Turning Point. You will be given an Objective, such as "Go to the Railway Station", and that's it. I stumble around trying to find the direction I'm supposed to go to get to the Railway Station, which may involve you finding an underground route, a rooftop route, or a street level route. A simple compass with a marker showing direction would have been greatly appreciated.

2) Objectives aren't listed onscreen. A message box pop's up stating "Objective Added" and you have to pause the game and go into the menu to see what your new objective is.

3) Spots where the game stops to load sometimes happen at weird intervals. For example, I was in the middle of a firefight, ducking behind cover, and stationary. The game suddenly stopped for a "Loading" period. Nothing was added at that point... no blimp suddenly appeard, no tanks, no added troops, nothing.... but the game decided to pick the middle of an high-action fight to pause & load.

As I said, Turning Point isn't the worst game ever released. Nor is it the greatest. I'm enjoying Turning Point and don't consider the money I paid for the game as wasted.

how about the story, that's what I'm most interested in, I can live with everything else, a game like this should have a fantastic storyline. I didn't know this game existed and when I saw the commercials with the blimps invading New York, I was somewhat blown away that someone did a WWII game where the Nazis actually won the war, an interesting spin on your normal WWII FPS.

Storyline is all but missing!

I to had hopes about this game but it turned out to be a generic fps on rails.

I beat the game in around 10 hrs, would've been quicker but my copy would just decide to lock up and I'd have to restart areas over and over again.

2nd run thru took about 2 1/2 hrs...

I did enjoy it somewhat but not at the full price point I paid for it,wish I would of waited for it to hit the bargin bin!

Best thing I can say is it reminded me of why I stopped preordering~

This game LOOKED kick ass with an awesome premise...unfortunately the reviews of the game have been fairly dismal.

I still play on picking it up someday, but it will be when I can find it for $25 or less.

i liked the demo, but again, I am going to have to agree that this will be a bargain bin purchase later.

Make it a Bargin Bin - Fire Sale purchase only. And then give it careful, careful thought.

Though I posted earlier that I was enjoying the game, that enjoyment stopped last night. I am NOT that good a gamer.... I rarely game online because I get my butt handed to me majorly and feel that I'm just taking up server space. But even with all my game playing weaknesses, I was able to beat Turning Point in just about FOUR hours! I was shocked when the game ended and I sat there watching the credits roll thinking "You got to be kidding me".

As I said previously, the graphic's, control, and AI didn't bother me or hinder my enjoyment. The lack of story, the ending, and shortness of the game did.

I highly recomend that if anyone is interested in playing the game that you rent it as its not worth $60 in any shape, manner or form. My reasons follow and contain Major Spoilers below:

There are only three "Act's" (that's what the developers call them) to the game: New York, Washington, and London. Each is very short.

The premise of the game is interesting (Nazi's win WWII and invade the U.S. in 1953) but there is almost NO story within the game itself. A couple of short cut-scenes give a little info (such as the puppet president surrendering the U.S. to the Nazi's) but other than those scenes, the "story" of the game is simply Objectives you have to carry out, like "Assassinate the President" or "Destroy the Atom Bomb".

The game ending??? The most unbelieveable I have ever witnessed... you die stopping the deployment of the atom bomb (Act III), but the Nazi's are still in control of the U.S. No resolution to the invasion is offered.... guess we'll have to continue the fight in Turning Point 2 (shudders).

Production value is really low. HERE IS THE ACTUAL ENDING OF THE GAME Notice how after the explosion that the game flashes back, for an instant, to the ticking bomb then goes to the credits? They couldn't even provide a smooth transition into the credits.

Online: two modes (Deathmatch - Team Deathmatch) and two maps. That's it. And I didn't play online because there was never anyone there when I tried.. maybe not enough people purchased the game yet, as the leaderboard showed 9 names on it.

Some of the game makes NO sense at all. As an example, I'm in a elevator going to another floor. Over my radio I'm told to carry out my objective but since the objective is heavily guarded, my best bet for success is stealth. The doors of the elevator open and I'm faced with a hallway filled with Nazi's firing at me! How can I use stealth when the game won't allow me to????

Sigh... what a waste of four hours.
