Windows Media Cener help

Recommended Posts

Well, not sure where to turn as the online guides don't seem to be much help.

I got everything installed, when the 360 loads up Media Center, the Media Center logo thing loads up and it is connecting to my PC, then the screen just goes black and nothing. Has this happened to anybody else and how did you fix it?

EDIT: can a mod please delete this post? I didn't realize it took 10 minutes for the thing to load.

WTF? What are you using to connect to your PC? What devices are you going through? It takes me like 10 seconds to pull up Media Center on the 360. Granted you'll have a one time session to populate your music and video lists that can take a loooong time (20 minutes maybe, probably depends how much media you have on your PC) , but after that, should boot up in seconds.

I have a desk top computer running XP that my DSL goes into and the wireless is connected too. I have a Laptop running Vista that has Media Center and then my 360. So I guess the signal goes from my desktop to my laptop then to the 360.

It takes at least 10 minutes to load, when it does, there's so much lag that when I move around in the interface it takes like 30 seconds for things to register. like i will hit -> and it would take 30 seconds to go there or when I looked at pictures it probably took 10 minutes to load 70 thumbnails. The signal is extremely weak though between my laptop and 360, I got into the options to optimize signal and when i did the bar graph thing, only the first bar was lit up and the only suggestion the damn thing would give would be to move the access point or remove obstructions from the way. Well there's nothing in the way between my 360 and the laptop, but there are walls from my router and the laptop and 360, and moving it is not an option.

What I don't understand is that I can use the Zune media sharing software and stream video/ music / pictures without any problem, but Media Center runs like crap.

I really wish there was a way to adjust how much video caches on the 360 when streaming. When I'm streaming HD video it tends to hiccup quite a bit to cache (apparently my network isn't fast enough). I'd rather let the video cache for a few more minutes than have to deal with skippy video.

Oh yeah, that might do it. I have one of my 360's talking wirelessly to a modem/switch and it works fine with Media Center...but I have 3 or 4 bars. If you cannot move the access point...maybe you could get some sort of extender? Otherwise, might want to run a cat-5 cable and just hardwire it.

WMC is quite snappy when I've used it, and I've never had any video streaming hiccups. Of course most everything here is GigE hardwired. :D

i'm not going to worry about it anymore, everything I wanted to do with Media Center, I can just stream with from my PC wirelessly with Media player 11 and it's flawless.

To be honest with you I rarely kick off Media Center either. I just press the Xbox button, pull up the blade and play songs like you are talking about. Lots easier, and you can listen while playing games.

I had hiccups. Th ebest thing I ever did was connect the media center PC to the net with a cable rather than let it be wireless. I leave the 360 wireless though and no problems unless I try HD video. I suspect I'd have to have the 360 wired for that.
