Typhoon 2001 (T2K clone for PC) Anyone seen this?

Recommended Posts

Yep.

It's been posted a bunch!

I think it's cool, but I like Project Tempest FAR better!

The cool thing that came from it was finding Plasma Pong during the search!

That game hypnotizes me :D

I just chuckle as it needing a 500Mhz CPU and 4-pipelined GPU minimum to recreate a game which ran on a 68000....

Typhoon's graphics are much closer to Tempest 3000 on the NUON than 2000 on the Jaguar, The Jaguar probably couldn't handle either. But I'll stick with T2K anyway.

Isn't Project Tempest a Jaguar emulator?!?

That Plasma Pong is pretty wicked looking! Defender 2000 also has an easter egg game called Plasma Pong on it too! Not as "plasma" as the one you linked too, but it's cool.

I had no sound under Linux. Controls (keyboard) confused me a bit, should need a controller for that. But it looks really stunning.

as a long time t2k fan I was skeptical, but I installed this on my laptop and it's a lot of fun. It's different enough from t2k that it feels somewhat new while also feeling familiar. The one thing I don't understand, he copies everything else from the Jaguar game, why doesn't he use the right voices instead of the generic voice he uses?

Um...Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar is about 75% 68000. Minter said he used about 30% of the Jaguar's

power in T2k.

I think its actually in one of the dev notes in the dev kit and I think he said so in one of those

mag interviews from the day....Also....I have seen the sources. He's really using a lot of the 68k.

Just go look at any of the source code Curt just released......if that does not convince you that

the power of the Jaguar was mostly wasted, I dont know what will.

Neither version adheres to the arcade close enough for my liking. I think all the special effects

tend to get in the way. Beautiful GFX effext, no doubt, but save them for IN BETWEEN levels so

I can play the game.

Nothing is more aggravating than getting blown up because the "1 UP" totally blinded you!

Thanks for nothing guys! :P

That may be, but judging by the graphics of T3K and Typhoon, do you think the Jaguar could still pull those games off?

Interesting point of view. Personally I love tempest 2k on the Jag. I've always kept a copy of a Jag emulator and t2k on every computer I've owned since :( selling my Jaguar years ago, because I zone out in the game and it is a great escape. Typhoon is great is because I've become pretty good on T2k even when I dont play it for months I can play for hours.... I suck at typhoon 2001 it's harder and the timing is totally different from the Jag game... which is good because it's like something old and something new for me. Also I love the new web effects. No need to install Project Tempest on this computer. One thing I don't understand is why since he rips off the music etc.. didn't he rip off all the sounds? Also why change the look of some of the enemies? Like the smiling thing.

This game was first mentioned in April of 2007 I believe. At the time I had to run the game through a compatibility layer as it was only available on Windows and I didn't spend much time with it. Today I happened to notice that they had released a Linux version and I loaded it up. I am very impressed with the progress that has been made since the last time I looked at this game. It is really shaping up and I think it is a fantastic clone. I actually came on the forum and did a search for Typhoon to find the old thread. It was just a coincidence that there was a fresh thread on it.
