doubledown #1 Posted March 8, 2008 What would you be more interested in seeing/owning; a ColecoVision with a PC - HD15 output or an HDMI output and why?
Tony Montana #2 Posted March 8, 2008 VGA for me, simply because i have a TFT monitor but can't afford a TV with HDMI and probably won't be able to for a long time.
Inky #3 Posted March 9, 2008 VGA THough Id love one with S Video
ten-four #4 Posted March 10, 2008 Hi... I can allready see the wow effect. But would the TFT/LCD be able to detect the signal. ColecoVision have a very low digital resolution (256 x 192). Or will you opscale HDMI to a higher resolution
Jess Ragan #5 Posted March 10, 2008 Oh, this is easy... VGA. It's the most supported high-definition video format out there... if you've got a computer monitor, you've got VGA. HDMI just doesn't have the same market penetration.
joeybastard #6 Posted March 10, 2008 HDMI seems like overkill for a CV so I say VGA. What I'd much rather see than either of those is a cheaper and easier composite solution.

What do you think of Ben Heck's solution? It's easy and cheap, and seems to work quite well for me. I'd pick VGA over HDMI, BTW. 5-11under

I've actually been delaying doing it because my CV is having a controller problem. I think I need to replace the ICs for the controllers but I'm a little nervous about doing it and possibly screwing up my CV completely. As it is, if I keep the Roller hooked up all of the time, the controllers work fine so I've just been doing that. Maybe I'll take a shot at the video mod this weekend. doubledown #9 Posted March 10, 2008 (edited) Well I started working on the VGA ouptut this weekend. It works perfectly, I just need to get the electronics buttoned up inside the console. The only real detail left is to determine if the stock power supply can properly power the additional electronics. If not I'll have to install my internal power supply which has more a lot more power than the stock version. The difference is amazing as I'm taking the component video signals (purest video signals native to the board) directly off of the VDP and upscaling them to VGA (640 x 480). It truly looks perfect. All of the pixels are prefectly recognizable, the colors are true and bright. Since it is pulling its signals from the VDP the expansion modules won't work, just as they don't work when using Component Video outputs. Generally this doesn't concern me as I want to play ColecoVision games on a ColecoVision, not Atari 2600 games. I've also figured out a new way to do composite / S-Video mods to the ColecoVision that are the purest, clearest, and brightest I've ever seen. These also negate the use of the expansion module, but they look twice as good as any composite or S-video mod picture I've ever done or seen before.
