doubledown #1 Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) Well I've finally finished my CV Super Action Control Pad. It's a Jaguar Pro Pad converted cosmetically and electronically for use with the ColecoVision. It features an 8-way D-Pad, 4 Super Action Buttons, and a 12 button keypad. The shoulder buttons are also used as alternate red and purple buttons for games that require multiple buttons pressed at the same time like Front Line. Technically it doesn't have the spinning wheel like the Super Action Controllers, but since it's only needed for SA Baseball, Football, and Soccer and I never play them, it didn't really concern me. doubledown #4 Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) I got a chance to spend some quality time with my new controller tonight and it's awesome. Obiviously any control pad is better than the standard controllers but it really kicks ass. It's just as good as the standard Jag Pad conversions I've done as far as comfort and precise control, but the addition of the extra Super Action buttons making Front Line and Rocky: Super Action Boxing playable, and games like Star Trek and Spy Hunter a lot easier, is truly spectacular. Unfortunately since the Jag Pro Pads aren't easily/cheaply had, I won't be offering any kind of order taking for these. Not to mention the wiring and dying the buttons is a bitch. It took me about 3 hours to make this one, versus the 1.5 hours for the standard Jag Pads. Edited March 12, 2008 by doubledown

Jess Ragan #7 Posted March 12, 2008 What IS the wiring for a Super Controller like, anyway? It's already a mess for a stock controller...
doubledown #8 Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) The wiring is real similiar, but you add 2 wires and magnetic reed switches of some kind for the spinning wheel if you use it (I didn't in this case) and you've got extra diodes and traces for the extra Super Action Buttons. The Super Action Controllers actually have 2 PCBs inside. One up top for the directions, numeric pad, and spinning wheel, and a lower one in the hand grip for the buttons. The other thing that sucks is that the Jag Pro controllers are a little thinner internally versus the standard Jag pads so stuffing the hacked Coleco PCB guts and extra wiring into a smaller space was a bit of a challenge. It took me about 10-15 minutes to button it up to make sure nothing got pinched or crushed when I sealed the controller up. One thing nicer about the Jag Pro pad is that the number buttons stick up a little higher than versus the standards and also have a counter-sunk hole around them, and are a bit easiser to activate. Kripto #10 Posted March 12, 2008 Excellent Work. You could have have had fun passing it off as a old prototype and claiming that the Jag controller was stolen from Coleco...
doubledown #11 Posted March 12, 2008 Excellent Work. You could have have had fun passing it off as a old prototype and claiming that the Jag controller was stolen from Coleco... I think the people around here recognize my hardware talents too readily to believe something like that. Well now that I've got this custom controller done I can get to finishing the other two I've started. I also thought of a new one last night that I'm going to look into tonight.
