What is this part? & used for? Atari/Texas instruments joystick port part?

Recommended Posts

I bought an Atari lot and it came with something I do not know what it is. It is made by Texas instruments, has an end like an atari joystick with 2 black cables coming out of it just like a pair of paddles. Then at the end of the cables, one of them has 3 wires and the other has 2 wires. These wires are different sizes and have ends like an Atari ac power supply.

Does anybody know what this is or what it was used for? Please reply. Thanks!

I have one exactly like that with my TI99/4a, but I've never used it. I always assumed it was for a cassette recorder.

That is for loading or recording programs to a tape player. I used to do that when I was a kid with my TI99.

Ahh memories of the TI-99/4A cassette cable. I remember the "on/off" plug(remote?) never worked on mine. My first cassette recorder to use with my TI didn't have a counter on it. Felt like I was running on inferior hardware. Tapes with multiple programs often had the counter time listed, so you can zip to which ever program you like.

What was fun was saving your game with a tape and then restoring the save from another game. I would do this in the Adventure games and sometimes you would end up with an exit in your inventory.

Anyone need it? Just pay for the shipping. I can't use it.

I have a TI but no cable that I can find. Do you take PayPal, or how should I give you the money?
