MrAtari2600 #1 Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) now I always think 3 steps ahead of where I should and usually get to many things going BUT i was curious to know if anybody ever tried this game. It was quite enjoyable and is NOT a button mashing fighting game It was a sit down arcade game where you used the joysticks to maneuver a gundam fighter. I found this locally and did a bit of research on the internet for it, the only thing is, I DO NOT think it will fit through my door not many people know about my first project arcades I own, Well here is my project Its a bit oudated on picture apologies, its being stored in warehouse we own until the basement is finished Edited March 21, 2008 by VintageGameCollectorKid
Gemini #2 Posted March 22, 2008 I have the second Virtual On game on the Dreamcast. I find the controls insanely complicated... which doesn't mean I suck at it, but I find the game a bit too skippy... it's hard to keep fluid motion throughout, which seems to be a common problem among giant-robot fighting games that are stereotypically Japanese, such as the Armored Core series. It's the kind of game I pop in once in a blue moon just for nostalgia sake, since I don't like the gameplay but enjoy the concept at least.
MrAtari2600 #3 Posted March 22, 2008 i understand your view completely, i would think unless it had a special controller like the arcade it would be complicated, the arcade version utilized 2 joysticks to control your fighter, it was a lot easier to handle
shadow460 #4 Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) Both Operation Moongate and Oratorio Tangram have special controllers available for them. I have the stick for OM, but I don'thave the Dreamcast controller for OT. OT's controls are very complex using the standard pad. Use of the stick, though, makes it simple. I'm a huge fan of both games. I haven't tried Virtual On Marz yet, but I expect it has the same solid gameplay without the need for a special controller (it uses a Dual Shock 2). I routinely kicked tail on the OM arcade machines. I've never seen OT in the arcade, but I have it for the Dreamcast. They are both some of the better games on their respective systems. I just wish a port of OM had been made for the Dreamcast--it would have played arcade perfect. The first screenshot is kind of interesting. Either it's a two player matchup or the computer opponents have been changed. Note that all three of Temjin's weapons are discharged, which is only possible after a special move was used. IIRC, Dorkas and Viper II are the only ones with true specials. Also note that Viper II is the enemy, whereas normally Temjin is the CPU enemy on this stage.
