rheffera #1 Posted March 22, 2008 As the title suggests, since last november ,my passion for the 2600 vanished. I havent bought a game i didnt have nor did i participate in the 2600 sale in december. (Blasphemy, i know). I didnt even play or visit the forums in that time! Although i have started studying at Uni which consumes a large amount of my time, i still could have broken out the controller and played HERO. Even the thought of selling my beloved collection has crossed my mind! WTH is wrong with me. Although i have bought a 7800 recently..so i guess the kindling is going again.. +Ransom #2 Posted March 22, 2008 Yeah, it comes and goes for me, too. The key lesson I've learned, though, is not to sell everything just because I haven't used a console in a while. I could have saved myself a bundle if I'd never sold any of my consoles or games. Glad to see you're getting back into classic gaming.
tcv #3 Posted March 22, 2008 WTH is wrong with me. Oh come on! Of course you're going to lose steam on interests. It happens to everyone. If you really feel that you need confession or penance on this Good Friday, go see a priest! :D
StanJr #4 Posted March 22, 2008 DO NOT sell the collection. Look, I've probably logged a maximum 10 hours on the VCS in the past year. Life has been very busy and with shiny things like the Wii around, my beloved Atari has been rather neglected. But that is ok. I still love it deep down and will always return to it from time to time, no matter how long between spells. This is normal, you are ok. DO NOT sell. opeygon #5 Posted March 22, 2008 keep your stuff always. no matter what. one day you'll break out with some H.E.R.O. again

theking21083 #8 Posted March 22, 2008 It's good to flip flop from different hobbies. It keeps them fresh and exciting for when you come back to them. I went through my Atari 2600 & Colecovision spells last year. This year it's my arcade (which I'm converting to a Donkey Kong)and Atari 8-bit so far and I don't even have the 8-bit yet. racer raul #9 Posted March 22, 2008 You can't be serious man... come on. I don't play my 2600/7800, 800xl as much as I like. But when I have a few minutes I do... My family takes a ton of my time, and so does work... that's life. The toys are there for whenever I have time for them, and not for me to worry about my life not revolving around them... Heck I also have a motorcycle (my fav past time), Colecovision, and NES I wont sell... I play those even less, but I do when I do... So nothing wrong with ya brother... keep the toys & play them when you can.
CrazyChris #10 Posted March 22, 2008 Good point. I sold my Jaguar and 7800 collection about 6 years ago and have had to buy both back pice by peice. Some items I can't even get now. DO NOT sell the collection. Look, I've probably logged a maximum 10 hours on the VCS in the past year. Life has been very busy and with shiny things like the Wii around, my beloved Atari has been rather neglected. But that is ok. Recycled #11 Posted March 22, 2008 Well....I feel the same way about music. I've collected lps and cds most of my life...but I've stopped. I just don't get the kick from listening to music any more. I'm not going to sell my collection unless I really need the money. (I still sell cds as a side business though) Now, the 2600. I haven't played mine in awhile either. I've been neglecting it and my CV as well. I've been playing straight Odyssey 2 over the last 2 months. I plan on getting back into those consoles....but with summer coming up....my videogaming as a whole will drop off dramatically since I'm really into outdoors activities. I guess nothing remains exciting....we move on to new things. Hopefully, we can always have some appreciation for our past loves though.
Crazy Climber #12 Posted March 22, 2008 My Atari 2600 collection was worth easily over 10k at one point, now it is worth about 50 bucks - lol What I am getting at is keep the cheap stuff everyone already has anyways, drag it out and plug it in now and then for a little wayback fun and sell the rare stuff you never play or have lost interest in. They will be better suited with collectors who appreciate it more anyways Just my opinion...
toymailman #13 Posted March 22, 2008 As the title suggests, since last november ,my passion for the 2600 vanished. I havent bought a game i didnt have nor did i participate in the 2600 sale in december. (Blasphemy, i know). I didnt even play or visit the forums in that time! That's why you haven't been posting on the HSC. I think all hobbies/intrests come in spurtz. Mine have bounced around a lot for a while now. Cycling, Atari, Smallville and Lost , Kart racing, and even politics. February was my 2-year anniversary reuniting with my 2600 roots as a kid. The Flashback 2.0 purchase got me going again. Then I got all the stuff from when I was a kid (from my dad), and started hitting Atari2600.com and eBay. Now it is fun to window shop on eBay and see what the community develops here. {still want to do something myself when I get the nerve (and time) to climb the learning curve} I know when my wife and I have kids, the Atari will have to get packed up (not sold) to make room. We have a 3-bedroom house and one room is ours, one is for her comic book and sci-fi/fantasy book collections and the third is for my Atari stuff. Then I will be thankful for emulation and miss playing on real hardware. Hope to see you back on the HSC man!

I think its called aging Dont mean to sound negative, but i too, dont enjoy games and death ,black metal music like i used too,i even find Horror movies boring and stupid now, which i used to love in my teens up until my 20's.Im starting to mellow out, which i never thought would happen, but it is. StanJr #18 Posted March 22, 2008 you have to fight it, Rik, with every fiber of your being. I'm 33 and I spend every day PLAYING. In some way shape or form. The real "grown-up" world is too dull and riddled with responsibility. Oh sure, I pay my bills and work my job (and I love my job), and I do all the grown-up things, but my free time is PLAY time. Comic books, video games, board games, arcades, bowling, parties, pool, all of these things are very important parts of my life and help keep my soul from withering in the cold of the real world. fight it, Rik. fight it!
