Segataritensoftii #1 Posted March 23, 2008 I was just wondering, are there any games (besides simulations) that enthralled you the most? Like games that you would play for days if given the opportunity? My personal pick for this category would be The Incredible Machine. There were so many types of contraptions you could build. It kept me glued to my computer screen for hours as I tried building the most complex method of opening a can of soup that I could think of. The puzzles were also awesome and well done as well, and I spent an equal amount of time on those. I don't think I ever finished them all.
Lemmi #2 Posted March 23, 2008 at first it was The Horde, each time i played that game i couldnt wait until i got to the desert area and try to make a lake around my town then it was Warcraft 2 (one time played this for 13 hours straight). after beating the campaigns, i went onto the custom maps and ive played every single one of them atleast once (96 total maps), this is where the 13 hour game came in. at 2 different times during the game all the bad guys sent everything they had at me and both times i survived with 3 or less peons or army guys and when all was said and done i reached the highest score i have got 184,550 (Lord) which is 5 levels from game designer rank and i missed being a Grand Admiral by like 500 points but everquest, the only online game ive ever played took the cake 36 straight hours one time and 2 years played and during that time i didnt even know what a videogame controller felt like, and the last 6 months of play were spent in that game and on this website untill i gave it all up because my computer couldnt handle the new expansion pack, everyone was playing in the new areas and i was stuck in the old areas but the most fun was playing with others and finding new places to level and get weapons/armor my favorite place was velious (sp?) Cybergoth #5 Posted March 23, 2008 Pirates! I played most versions of it and ususally sank a month or more into each of them. Almost bought a PSP because of it
Shannon #6 Posted March 23, 2008 Transport Tycoon Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 & 2 Empire 2 Simcity 2000 These are games I probably spent close to a year replaying. Notice most of them are sandbox type games.
p_b #7 Posted March 23, 2008 Railroad Tycoon. Played it for 16 hours non-stop (well, just to relieve my bladder...) on my old XT with CGA graphics.... And I would definitely do it again!
Video #8 Posted March 23, 2008 Eenthralled? Is that the same thing as getting a boner? J/K Well, for me, it would be Populous. God, I could play that for hours (and many times I did stay up all night and play through entire off times on this game) But you said not sim type games....After that, would be Halo, which literally stayed in my X-box for 5 years streight (litterally, from day one, to about mid 06, I played this game at least 8 hours per day, and spent all my off time on it) Beyond bathroom breaks (darn soda, why can't you get caffiene in just powder?) I've even played it 72 hours streight befor.

Gregory DG #10 Posted March 23, 2008 Just about anything from Bullfrog... Populous 1 & 2, Dungeon Keeper, Theme Park... The first time I ever played Quake online... I said to my grandmother, "THIS is the future of video gaming!" Turns out I was right. Played Everquest and Anarchy Online for about 6 months before being bored with it. Played Tetris for the first time in the early 90s (actually a clone on the 8-bit Atari got me going) and I've been addicted to that ever since. IMO the greatest game ever made. Shannon #11 Posted March 23, 2008 Whoops didn't see the simulation criteria. Those were the games that have the most replay value. Well than add Goldeneye and Mario 64 to the list. I've literally spent hours on those as well.
Roloking #12 Posted March 24, 2008 Animal Crossing DS killed a lot of time for me. I never got a chance to play the gamecube one even though I've Heard it was much better. If Simcity doesnt count then SimTower. I've been playing that game since I got it about 7 years ago. I have a whole folder full of perfect towers. CGQuarterly #14 Posted March 24, 2008 Does Civilization III count as a simulation? In college I used to play the game from beginning to end in one stretch, taking breaks only to use the restroom or eat (but not taking breaks to say, go to class). Back when it came out, I used to do the same thing with Final Fantasy VII. I hadn't started college yet and just had a full time job, but on my two days off I would literally play the game all day. These days, Oblivion would come the closest. I don't even bother putting the game in the machine unless I want to piss away several hours, if not the entire day. This weekend I beat Call of Duty 4, playing the majority of it yesterday. It's a short game, but that's the most time I have spent playing a game in one day in awhile. Shannon #15 Posted March 24, 2008 (edited) I think Oblivion was the last game I "really" got into. Although I did spend a fair amount of time with Rainbow Six Vegas and Lego Star Wars I would hardly consider them time eaters like Oblivion was/is. Add animal crossing to the list as well. I really got into that as well, although I did manage to force myself away from it, oh and Viva Pinata too. Thing is. Alot of games I REALLY like fall into the "sim" category. Will Wright coined a phrase for it (when he made Simcity), but it slips my mind. Can't believe I forgot to add Guitar Hero to that list of games that got me hooked..
