Attaching old labels back to carts

Recommended Posts

So some of my labels are falling off the carts. Considering they have been stuck there for over 20 years I guess you got to expect it. What type of adhesive is best?

The ones that are comming off are on my Apollo carts.

Thanks for your input.

I've been using an Avery glue stick. It's acid free, and permanent. Seems to work fine so far, but I've only used it on a few carts.

I dont know what it is about APOLLO game labels.About 90% of those carts i find have the front label,or mostly the end labels missing.Probably the type of glue they used, not very high quality.Atari seem to have the best labels, duration wise,I,ve yet to see an Atari cart with missing labels, scratched off ones dont count.

I recommend Krazy Glue Gel. It doesn't dry right away like regular glue which allows ample time to move the label about until you find where you want to keep it. Once you have the placement set apply pressure for 30 seconds and viola! The key to keeping the label in good shape is not to use much glue. I use the "less is more" philosophy.

One trick I found for labels that only has a corner peeling is to take a drop of the gel, stick a toothpick into it and then slide a little pin prick size onto the cart or label. Press down for 30 seconds and it's as good as new! I've saved many good labels using this technique.

I've used Rubber cement over the years. I'm not sure of the long term effects, but I've had some Atari 5200 labels (Most notably, Parker Brothers cartridges) reglued for well over 10 years. If anyone has any reason why Rubber Cement shouldn't be used, I'd be open to hearing about it.

I don't use it because I like to use a glue stick or scrapbooking glue. I actually prefer scrap booking glue myself, but that's preference. THe reason I don't like rubber cement really has no bearing on anything relevant, its completely personal. I glued on some labels with it a few years ago and did not pay attention and put them on upside down. NOw thats how they will stay forever. Of course I could of sold them on ebay as a factory mistake hummmmm..... SOmeone would fall for it I'm sure ;-)

One of the reasons I like Rubber cement is after it dries, you can rub off the excess around the edges.

Then you make make fake boogers out of it :)
