zach1845 #1 Posted April 1, 2008 I was at Gamestop today and Realized they had 5 Copies of Marvel VS capcom 2 For the PS2 they were 79.99 just for the Disc dont they realize that just because thats marketprice value online for a complete copy you cant sell it just the scratches up disc and a local store for that price and they just keep adding them(there must have been at least 5 copies of dark alliance 2 for ps2 for 59.
nathanallan #2 Posted April 1, 2008 Sounds like what the local playntrade tries to pull. GS around here hates to sell covers with their games, too. Same thing with Gamecrazy, though their discs seem to be less scratched up.

I snagged the Xbox version of Dark Alliance 2 earlier this year at a Gamestop for around $32 or so and thought I did okay. What's so special about the PS2 version? I think they pull this pretty regularly with higher demand titles or perceived rares. I've seen it with Gintaroo(sp) man and Rez as well. I actually forked over the $45 for Rez when I spotted it. Whoops. However, when I fork over that kind of cash, it better be all there or I'll just walk away. It does make you wonder what some people do with their stuff doesn't it? Hex. Lord Thag #4 Posted April 6, 2008 I just scored Gitaroo Man for $15. Mint too. Weird little game, that.
jboypacman #5 Posted April 6, 2008 My understanding with GameStop is that they got a batch of certain titles like REZ or Gitaroo Man factory sealed and just took them out of the seal and sold them as used. Now that just sounds strange/crazy to me if that is true so i dont think it is but you hear things sometimes and how these stores are makes you wonder. And i wonder why someone would pay crazy money for a PS2 Marvel vs Capcom 2? It would be cheaper to go buy yourself a Dreamcast and the version for it. Its cheaper to get the DC with game than what they would want for the PS2 version and its better on the DC anyway from what i hear.
Bruce Tomlin #6 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) Well, first of all, I've seen Gamestop price Halo 1, Platinum edition at $30 used, just last summer, so it's not only the rare games that they overprice. If you search around the boards, you will find a thread about a company, Game Quest Direct, which apparently fronted the big cash to get new printings made of rare CD/DVD games (PS1, PS2, Gamecube, etc.) Lots of whiny speculeech collectors griped about them making their own little treasure hoard worth less, by not being labeled as "greatest hits" editions or anything, which is stupid because you have to sell a LOT to get GH labeling. All they did was have more copies made, using the official manufacturing, when the original company (Atlus, etc.) wouldn't do so on their own. Naturally they had to have a relatively large print run to make it worth the effort (at $100K per print run!), even if they hoarded a bunch of copies and tried to sell them to the whiny collectors one at a time on ebay. So they sold off a lot of their extras to Gamestop. For some reason, Gamestop unwraps them and sells them as "used". Apparently there's something weird about their pricing that makes the "used" price higher than the "new" price. As far as I'm concerned, the only bad thing GQD did was to deny at first that they'd had reprints made. EDIT: here's an article about this: http://www.siliconera.com/2006/01/16/the-b...ss-of-reprints/ Edited April 8, 2008 by Bruce Tomlin
Giltygear #7 Posted April 16, 2008 gamestop takes the games, sits on them, creates a demand for them, then sparingly sends them out to stores for an exorbinate (?) amonut of money, knowing the if people want it bad enough, they will buy it

They seem to do that allot with rare games popping up in large numbers. About 2 years ago you couldn't touch Persona 2 and Rapsody for PS1, and then every store in America had several at $40 each. Id love to know how/why this happens. I know Atlus makes more like my $161 Disgea, now worth only $30 - $40 the.golden.ax
madhatter667 #9 Posted June 8, 2008 "there must have been at least 5 copies of dark alliance 2 for ps2 for 59.99 " BGDA2 rare??? When did this happen? $60?!?! I think I may have paid something like $30 for mine when I got it. I also recall an instance of trying to get Champions of Norrath for PS2 through the GS, GC chains... "Oh yeah, that's one's tough to get, probably be around $40 used if you find it.' BS, $20 on amazon.com NEW. I'll admit that the Persona games are a little on the harder side, even if Atlus DOES do second runs (which I am unsure of). I have SEEN employees at a Game Crazy removing the packaging from a number of GBA and DS games so they ould put them on the used rack. There were like 3-5 of each game. This was probably a few years ago now though. I thought it was rather sheisty myself.
