Looking for GOOD suggestions to clean carts.

Recommended Posts

What are some good methods on cleaning carts? Rubbing alchol and a Q-tip? Sand paper? I'm trying to bring back a cart (WARPLOCK) from the dead and want to see what others do and what works the best.

Thanks

Rubbing alchol and a Q-tip is my #1 method. If that doesn't work then I'll use the pencil eraser or sandpaper method.

Skip the rubbing alcohol, and go straight to the pure stuff. Run down to your local drug store and get a bottle of Isopropanol 99% pure. Brand names don't matter here, a bottle will run you about $6 on the high side. It should be in the first aid section. If there is thick dirt on the plastic areas use some distilled water on them with a Q-tip (just the plastic and not the chip mind you). Q-tips work great for everything except that they leave little cotton fibers. That is where a can of compressed air and some tweezers will finish the job.

Pencil eraser or if that doesn't work and damp scouring pad. one of the green ones. Has worked well for me. I have also used electrical contact cleaner from radio shack.

Use spray contact cleaner, and the tight wound sponge tip swabs, they wont fray or leave residue on stuff, like Qtips do,available at any pharmacy.I get the contact cleaner from "THE SOURCE"...used to be called "RADIO SHACK"here in Canada.Contact cleaner has 0% water in it,which is what you want

Instead of Q-tips because they tend to leave strands and stuff behind, my wive turned me onto make-up applicator things. They look like Q-tips but one side is a flat ball and the other is a pointed cotton tip. THey leave behind almost no residue and they are stiffer and more precise than a Q-tip, these are also unbelievable for cleaning the casing on older atari systems they fit in the ridges perfect. As for the contacts I use contact cleaner from radio shack or 99% Iso Alcohol from the drug store. you can use other cleaners on the plastic clam shell like windex and such but keep it off the labels. SOme labels especially non Atari will run real easy. Activision carts tend to bleed through also. For Coleco games that are severally discolored, I use a bleach pen very carefully around the clamshell it brings the original color back pretty good. But do not get it on the labels, it will quickly destroy them... :D
