What's the current on a Radica TV Games Genesis?

Recommended Posts

I know that this thing needs a 6V power supply, but I need to know what's the amperage the power supply must be. Is 300mA enough, or is it too strong/too weak?

How many batteries does it use? My Coleco Sega takes three AAA batteries and is rated at [email protected] 200mA. Also, don't worry about it being too strong, the device uses what it needs and the rest doesn't go through. I would say 300mA is fine unless it uses, like, D cells, then you'd need more.

it uses 6V? Four batts then? Try it, if it isn't enough it won't hurt anything. It just won't work. Then you increase it.

These are guidelines that I follow, hope it helps. Also, do you know where I can get one? Sega's cool

Yes, that's right, 4 AA batteries. As for where to get one, it just happened that I found one, so I don't really know where you can get it. When were these things discontinued if they were(wasn't this like a limited release thing?)

On a side note, I have an audio problem that only seems apparent on Sonic(this is the oldest Radica). Some sounds are barely audible(Sonic's jump), while others are WAY overblown(especially drums), causing the audio to scratch pretty badly(worse than my 2nd spare Model 2 Genesis). Is this a hardware defect that's normal or is my unit going crazy?

if the sound problem is only on sonic I tend to think that the game is coded not quite right. If it were all the games I'd say a chip or something is going out. Some of these one-chip-wonders are like that I have found.

About the power, do you know the polarity? If it takes an adapter then the diagram should be on it (just making sure).

Is this the unit in question? Looks neat enough to buy to me.

It's exactly this one. The power supply needs to have the polarity like this:

+(o-

The O is the center of the plug.

not too hard to find. Around here you can go to the local market area in downtown and get a generic power supply that has voltages up to 12vdc, with switchable polarities. Not thebest build quality, and it may break at 12v at 1A but for your machine it would be great. If I had a spare i would send it to you, but alas, I don't. I say DON'T go to radio shack, cause they'll want a lot for it. You may even be able to find one like that at a thrift store.

I actually have a multi-voltage multi-polarity power supply that can supply 300mA of current, but I didn't want to use it in case the current was too strong.

the device will only take what it needs, so if it's too little it won't work and if it's too much the power isn't forced on it. As long as it's not, like, 1 amp over or so, then regulation starts to act funny. It oughta work. If the power supply gets too warm, then you know it wasn't enough and it's over working itself.

I have an 800mA power supply feeding my 7800, and it's okay for about a half hour then I get worried. The device is rated at 1A, so it gets pretty warm, but only after long periods. For playing a game for a little while it's okay.
