"Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts" is an awesome game.

Recommended Posts

Even with some slowdown issues, I think this is my favorite game in the series. Colorful graphics, wonderful orchestral soundtrack, inventive level design...

It isn't the most difficult game in the series either. But the last level the second time around (where you have to use the damn bracelet) provides a worthy challenge... I made it all the way to the bosses of level 7 with the bracelet and still lost.

Yep. I love this game. And I would venture to say it is pretty damn tough. I cannot get past the lava level, at least if I did, I didn't get much farther and then died. I remember blowing a couple of entire days playing a very long non-stop game. The endless continues are the only thing that make this game doable for me.

Great game.

Where do you get stuck in the lava level? One of the most difficult aspects to master is the jumps between the narrow ice pillars that appear in the lava... You have to space your jumps out just right (you should use two quick taps) or you'll over-jump and miss. Then you're introduced to the red gargoyle who is a major pain (it's best to just run past him to the next part)... Climbing the rotating tower can be a struggle as well.

Oh, wait I got the to rotating tower! Maybe that is where I got stuck! Yeah, those were the jumps that beat my ass down so many times. Ugh.

Kick ass game. The ice level is awesomeness personified, especially the music for the level, with the booming brass in the background and the gentle woodwind in the foreground. One of the few "super hard" games I remember beating soundly back in the day, before I broke my fingers and my dexterity went to crap.

Not to piss on the parade, but I liked Ghouls 'n Ghosts more. I always thought the Super NES game should have been called "Super Ghosts 'n Goblins," as it returns to the darker, more haunting art direction of the first game, and takes away abilities that were extremely useful in Ghouls 'n Ghosts. You start to feel the consequences of Capcom's decision to remove four-way firing from this game almost immediately after you start it.

You know the Sharp X68000 has THE arcade version of Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, it would have had the best Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts as well. Awesome machine.

I wish I could soundly beat the game. But I always mess up when it comes time to play the last level the second time around with the bracelet. Enemies that were easy to take out with the crossbow become excruciating to defeat with that stupid fireball.

One of my all time favorites, the extra jump is nice but I agree that the 4 way fire is missed. I also heard about another unique chapter in this series made for the Wonderswan? Anyone hear about or play that one?

Yeah, this one's tough, but not quite as tough as Ghouls 'n Ghosts. I've made it as far as the ice cliffs area (4-2). I have seen the later stages as well, but I had to cheat to get to those.

As for Ghouls 'n Ghosts, I can get to the third area. And for the original Ghosts 'n Goblins, I can get all the way through the game the first time, and into area 2 on the second run-through. I've also gone through Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins thanks to the addition of save points (makes the game a little easier to me), but I still haven't found all those rings so I haven't seen the ending just yet.

Yes, please. And I wouldn't mind if they'd made it eight-way shooting had they kept the idea in there.

Has anyone played the SuperGrafx version? I was wondering how it stacks up to the rest.

More detailed than the Genesis version, graphically, it's the most faithful to the arcade of all the conversions...but the knight is washed out, and the music wouldn't be out of place on an NES.

I always thought the Super NES game should have been called "Super Ghosts 'n Goblins,"

I always thought it should be called "Arthur's Underwater Adventure" because that's how slow it feels on the SNES.

I can beat Super G&G and G&G relatively easily, but it's regular Ghosts & Goblins that gives me problem. That game is pure torture

But yeah I spent a lot of hours getting good at G&G and Super G&G. I remember going to the arcades and being able to get to the end (first pass only, which is about as far as I usually played) on one quarter and a small crowd would usually gather :P

These days to play Super G&G I like playing the version on the PSP in the Capcom Classics Collection... it just looks so nice on the small screen. However if I had to make a choice between Super G&G and G&G, I think I'd choose regular Ghouls and Ghosts as my favorite. I dunno the level design and weapons on it just appeals to me more.

Strange, I found the arcade and Amiga500 versions of Ghosts 'n' Goblins far easier than the NES (and to an extent, GameBoy) port. It was still hard, but the A.I. of those damned Red Arremers were far too cruel on the console port.

I like SUper G&G, but I just can't seem to get anywhere with the

bracelet on the second run-through. So never get to see the final

boss even though the rest of the game doesn't give me too much

trouble. I'd love to try and finish it, but I may not have the patience

any more...

At least you don't have to play through the whole game with the bracelet, you just have to beat level 7 with it (and then the final boss). But that's hard enough. Conquering level 7 with the bracelet requires true skill, and you can't make any mistakes because you need the gold armor for your weapon to be useful at all. I can make it to the two big catlike bosses then I always slip up. So aggravating.

I finally beat this game today! I didn't think that I could do it. It took me much longer to figure out the level right before the final boss than to beat the final boss.

To be honest, Astaroth (end boss of level 7) in both forms is quite easy if you can figure out the pattern. It's always his fire breath from the lower face followed by a beam from the head for fight 1. You can easily manipulate the beam's aim. It's trickier for True Astaroth, as his laser attack is a very huge tri-beam shot that goes horizontally. In either case, make sure to fire at the height of a double-jump to get some extra attack power into your shot.

Sardius.. I've got nothing in terms of a strategy.

I learned from a Youtube video that you can duck under Astaroth's tri-beam... making the fight a little easier.
