Atari Master #1 Posted August 14, 2002 I was wondering, what type of game conditions do you accept? I mean, does the game at your local thrift have to be perfect or you don't care if the label is ripped in two? For me, the game has to be in fair condition. Mabe some ruffage around the edges or a tare here and there. But if there's barely a label I won't buy it.
junglehunter #2 Posted August 14, 2002 I will buy a game at a thrift store unless the label is ripped very badly, the cart has a mess of a weird substance on it, or the cart is all scratched up.
bangles66 #3 Posted August 14, 2002 It depends. Depends if I need the cart or not. If I need a different label for a certain cart I may buy one in less than fair condition until I can find it in better condition. Also depends on if it's a loose cart or if I'm buying a whole bunch in a box type of sale. I certaonly wouldn't pass up a rare cart just casue the label is a little ripped. MattyXB #4 Posted August 14, 2002 If I don't have the game, then I maybe buy it with very bad lable. But only cheap. If this is a very Rare game, then the lable is not so importent. But by my favourite games I will own very good lables. So if I don't own this, then I buy one. But when I see better lables then I buy them again. But most I look only at the Rarity of the game. Room 34 #5 Posted August 14, 2002 I try to avoid severely thrashed labels, and also ones with writing on them (unless I think my collection of toxic chemicals at home will be able to remove it). I am willing to accept moderately bad actiplaque, as long as the label is physically intact and securely attached to the cartridge. But I'll still probably keep my eyes open for another copy in better condition. Now I am actually shooting for collecting THREE COPIES of each of the games I really like, so I can have one copy with my 2600 in the basement, another with my 7800 upstairs, and a third at the family farm in Michigan, where my Darth Vader now resides. Yar #6 Posted August 14, 2002 It all depends on what I can get, rarity, and how much I want the game. I have no concrete rules. Not to change the subject, but I think a good thing to help collectors out would be some sort of "condition guide". For instance, a perfect cart with not even a fingerprint would be a 10, where as a moderately dinged and scraped cart would be, say, a 7. You could have different categories for boxed and unboxed, of course. I standard condition guide to sort of "set" an acceptable price could prevent a lot of ebay ripoffs. bcprs1 #7 Posted August 14, 2002 I think it is just like every other collectible. It all comes down to price and availablility. For $1 each, I would buy almost everthing except really, really bad labels and the super commons.
Atari Master #8 Posted August 16, 2002 I will replace the bad game with a better one if I can find one. But I don't mind if theres little tear around the label.

SS #10 Posted August 17, 2002 I will replace the bad game with a better one if I can find one. But I don't mind if theres little tear around the label. I'd much rather have a cool game in bad condition than not have it at all. Later, if a better version comes along at the right price, I'll certainly upgrade. AtariDude #11 Posted August 17, 2002 Hopefully the game is in fair condition. Obviously mint condition would be great but since I have never found any Atari stuff at any of the local thrift stores that I go to, I pretty much settle for anything.
