bought my first intellivison

Awesome, because you didn't have to pay shipping!

Now you just need a Cuttle Cart 3 to go with it!

$10? AWESOME. The INTV is really an awesome console, with it's own line of incredible games for their time. If your a fan of the classic at all, it's a nice addition to your collection.

The disc kinda sucks, but eh...so did a lot fo controllers back then, so :P But once you get beyond that, the games are really deap and complex for that system.

I found an Intellivision at Goodwill once for $15 some years back. They are really cool... If it is a system 1 you should get the Intellivoice, and the games that use it. Bomb Squad, B-17, and Space Cadet? (I can't remember the third title). You'd know them visually by the gold foil like end labels.

Good find!

Happy hunting.

Tron Deadly Discs, the first Dungeons and Dragons game, Snafu, and Shark Shark are excellent one player games. Armor Battle and Triple Action are excellent two player games.

Beamrider? Dracula? Juggernaut?

Those are also good ones to dig up. Astrosmash is pretty good too, and the Space Combat games too. Though if you get games without overlays, I am pretty sure that there are discs out there to be had with all of them on there... just gotta print them out to play. Nothing for collector value, everything for play. I'd say it is also good to preserve your original overlays by playing with printed copies.

I would recommend you Beauty and the Beast, Demon Attack, Atlantis, the AD&D games, Utopia and Microsurgeon.

IMO the Imagic games belong to the best titles to the system. The Activision games are normally better on the Atari 2600.

You also should check out Loco-Motion. Its also a very addicting game IMO

I'm curious about the third AD&D game: Tower of Doom. Has anyone ever played it? It looks really nice!

I agree with the above.

I also enjoyed Bump n' Jump, Sea Battle, and Sub Hunt. Just get the CC3 from Chad. You will not regret it. All your games can go into it and no swapping carts.

Sea Battle is 2 player so you will need another person to play. It is an awesome game if your opponent and you are evenly matched. This game would be awesome if remade on a current console with better controllers.

AD&D:Tower of Doom will set you back a few bucks. I recall any of the AD&D Intellivision titles running something of a premium, but that one more than others. That is the one I DON'T have too... just doesn't crop up as often, unless something has changed in availability over the past two years.

A great thing about Intellivision is that lots of the common games are very good.

I do recommend you only buy the games complete in box. Having the instructions and overlays is often key, and having the box to store them in is handy. It shouldn't be too hard -- or too expensive -- to get the common games that way.

Here are some of the games that I've found to be well worth the price:

Beamrider - if you already have this for a two-button system, then don't bother with this one.

Happy Trails - A nice puzzle game by Activision.

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons - A close second to Adventure as the best action adventure game of all time.

Astrosmash - A very fun shooter that actually adjusts its difficulty to your level of play

Bump 'N' Jump - Probably the best console implementation of this at the time.

Burgertime - Ditto

Lock 'N' Chase - Ditto, plus it's just darned fun.

Loco Motion - Another puzzle game, this one by Mattel, but similar to Happy Trails

Shark! Shark! - Wonderful fun for two players

SNAFU - Okay, it's just Surround, but it's fun!

Space Armada - This Space Invaders clone is my second favorite behind the 2600 version; it gets challenging quick, but there are thoughtful touches to this one.

Space Hawk - Asteroids, adjusted very well for the unique nature of the Intellivision.

Star Strike - C'mon, you have to get this! It was their main arcade-style game used as a selling point!

Tron Deadly Discs - Behind AD&D, this is my second most favorite game on the Intellivision. It's great fun, particularly at higher levels.

Utopia - This has been called Civilization version 0.1. It was the first of the video games in that genre, as far as I know.

As others have said, the Imagic games are all good on this platform. But I didn't mention any, since the best ones are the ones that are available for other platforms (where you might already own them) and the rest are not at the top of my list of Intellivision games. That said, it is worth checking out any of the Imagic games -- even ones you already own for some other platform -- because the Intellivision ones are often better, with more depth and better graphics. But it's not necessary to place a huge priority on getting them, in my opinion -- and many can be pricey.

All of this is IMO...

Donkey Kong is terrible on the Intellivision. It's probably the worst port of the game.

(OTOH, Venture is quite good. Better than the ColecoVision version, even.)

Pac-Man is good. I'd still rather play it on the A8/5200, but this version is well worth playing if you don't have one of those.

Q*Bert is pretty good.

Popeye...well, I'm not a good judge of this one, because there is NO platform on which I enjoy this game. Including the original arcade.
